I have a question. Why would Texas not put a claim in on him? They need a RH bat and are already paying 10 of his 16 mil contract? It is bizzare they would not just claim him. Maybe they have and that's where he's headed via waiver claim or trade.

Just for the hell of it, according to MLB , the Red Sox third basemen rank #22 offensively vs rest of league.

Missed that. It could just as likely be Texas trading for him as the Sox, though.

Wow, I knew about Nava's differences with hitting lefties vs. righties, but I didn't realize the stats were nearly that pronounced (I though it was more like .825/.650, but it's .854/.606). I know, brutal, right? I was surprised myself, thought it was closer ... that's just a horrible split.

Let's be real here, Boston IS NOT going to trade for Michael Young. If they wanted him, he'd have been gone at the deadline for a C-level prospect in the 40-man logjam. The front office has made it blatantly obvious that Xander will be up at some point this year, and that'll obviously be at 3rd base. When X is up, not only is he up for good, but he's our everyday 3B. Let's remember, Young has been extremely picky in regards to where he wants to go and what situation he wants to play in. So would he accept a trade to Boston, only to be relegated to UTIL/backup duty within weeks? LOL NO.

I read recently that I think Decarcina ( spelling ) said Bogaerts is still susceptible to fastballs inside. The "Jackie Bradley" issue that he had when he came up. Said it was very common but still needed work. Maybe they just don't think Bogaerts will be successful yet. I'd rather go with the same approach the Rays used with Myers. He looked ready for a while but they made sure and now he is up creaming the ball all over the park.

Ortiz has been on base a lot the last few days. He has bad wheels. No idea what his numbers are against the starter tonight, but soft throwers have messed him up in the past. Seems like a good move to me.

Dear game thread posters,
As you know I have purchased the Boston Globe. It was a fab price but still it knocked down my total worth, for a spell at least. After reading the game threads, I now know that I do not need a general manager, a manager, any coaches, or scouts. You guys know all there is to know about the Sox and the game without even breaking a sweat or having a full time position with us or any baseball organization. I am impressed. Thus, I have decide to get rid of everyone, saving me substantial money that I can use giving the Globe baseball writers a raise. Instead just posted what the line ups should be, tweet any in-game moves that I will use to make the appropriate moves, and suggest any trades and call up any player when you believe they are ready or get bored with life.
Thanks in advance JH

I don't mind Farrell giving Ortiz the night off. I mind him giving Ortiz the night off when he's in the middle of an insane hot streak.

Didn't see a trade thread not locked but Youngs cleared waivers. Rosenthall Source: #Phillies’ M. Young has cleared waivers. Can be traded to any team, but only if he approves. Full no-trade clause still in effect. Please no...

Well, this is interesting. Gomes and Drew ahead of Napoli in the batting order. Seems Farrell is starting to figure something out here...

Francona used to do this all the time - and the player would seemingly always go 0 for the next 6 games. Maybe it was one of those "scheduled" days off or maybe he asked for it, but not a lot of players want to sit down when the bat is finding hits.

Hadn't realized how hot he was - spent the past couple of days packing/moving.

WEEI sez
...but then again, maybe it's just Farrell signalling to Cherington that it's OK to DFA Snyder now.
