Victorino offense has been ok, but his defense has been amazing. Best right fielder Boston has had since Evans, that is to say, the best right fielder during my memory. Too young to remember #7? Reggie Smith?

I remember Trot Nixon very well. I also remember successor in number and position (JD Drew). Victorino has been better defensively, in my opinion.

Are you talking about #7's brother, #7? Or the dirt dog #7? Either way, I think Victorino's speed elevates him over the other two, who were both terrific RFer's. ADD: Delay on the next page, didn't see the posts on this page before posting.

You know, Farrell did a few things I don't like last night (IBB of Lind, PR for Ortiz, Mike Carp MIA), but most managers wouldn't have used Koji under the phenomenally stupid "don't bring in your closer in a tie game on the road" idea. So he gets credit for that. Ortiz was the winning run on second with 1 out. You would be incredibly stupid to leave him in. The odds of scoring go up a good deal, and either way the game is unlikely to last long enough for him to get another at bat, and even if he did its unlikely he would be the difference.

RED SOX (72-49) Ellsbury CF Victorino RF Pedroia 2B Ortiz DH Gomes LF Drew SS Napoli 1B Saltalamacchia C Middlebrooks 3B Pitching: LHP Jon Lester (10-7, 4.37).
So Looks like Mike Carp broke his leg. Or his arm. Or his leg and arm. Or Napoli has some serious blackmail material on Farrell/Cherrington/Lucchino.

You can't sit Napoli. You might disturb the club house.

Boy, based on production this year it is hard to watch Carp sit EVERY DAY.

You can't sit Napoli. You might disturb the club house. So funny. Merloni said today on the radio that he would try to acquire Morneau or Konerko and just release Napoli but thinks the Sox management would be concerned about how such a move would "affect the clubhouse." Amazing.

]Victorino > Drew > Nixon I'd only amend this to: Victorino>Drew>>>>>Nixon. Drew was a very good right fielder, fairly close to Victorino, imo. Nixon was an overrated "Dirt Dawg" who made more stupid mistakes than Manny. He wasn't a *bad* right fielder, ok, but both Drew and Victorino are in another class, imo. I will admit to some bias (the veneration of Nixon always bothered me), but I think I'm on solid ground here.

At a certain point i think lucchino's wrath will catch up with Napoli. Thats just my opinion. Napoli gets $1M with his next plate appearance incentive, which is less 15 PAs away - he's at 460 now. Also $1M each for 550, 625 PAs according to Cotts I'm guessing the wrath is coming up within 15 PAs.

So Looks like Mike Carp broke his leg. Or his arm. Or his leg and arm. Or Napoli has some serious blackmail material on Farrell/Cherrington/Lucchino. Looks like progress to me... Napoli was batting 5th for the longest time, now moved from 6th to 7th rather quickly. Of course, I suspect it's more due to Farrell's fascination with L/R alternation, and Napoli will move back up to #6 next time a lefty starts in the 5-hole. But I can always hope he will move down to #8 at that point...

Uhm, yeah, good job Farrell, at least you tried to think about what you were doing...

Merloni said today on the radio that he would try to acquire Morneau or Konerko and just release Napoli but thinks the Sox management would be concerned about how such a move would "affect the clubhouse." Amazing. Is it just me, or is has the blind worship of clubhouse chemistry become a bigger problem in recent years? I mean I'm not saying it doesn't matter, but it seems like it's taking it way too far that you won't bench a player as disposable as Napoli in a clubhouse as supposedly strong as the Red Sox? What's the point of having all these super dirt-doggin' baseball rats in the clubhouse if they're just going to pack it in as soon as one guy gets (deservedly) benched? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like there's a certain element of stathead backlash underpinning the way that modern managers run their clubs. I mean, every time a manager does something that makes no sense on an analytical level, the excuse is always "well, they're in the clubhouse and they know things you don't". And that's probably true at times, but I also wonder if managers aren't making these decisions are made in an effort to assert that they have this special clubhouse knowledge that analytical folks don't.

O's have bases loaded, 1 out vs. D-Backs in 10th inning.
Edit: ... double play! Go D-Backs!

So anyway, why is Gomes starting against a RHP? If Nava needed a break you'd think Carp might get the call?

Seriously though, is Carp injured or something? Unlikely, as he was set to hit for Ortiz/Holt if the game hadn't ended just before the #4 spot came up again yesterday.
