Here's to hoping Xander will hit a five run pinch hit homer.

Brian MacPherson ?@brianmacp 7m Asked about playing Drew over Bogaerts against Zito, Farrell pointed to Drew's 35 at-bats against Zito in his career.

Against a lefty? Just on a fan level, that's really disappointing. Zito seems like the perfect kind of pitcher for Bogaerts to get some swings at. Just like I predicted, and said earlier. Farrell does not really pay attentiom to R/L match ups like other managers do.

That's simply crap... Farrell is one of the most stats oriented managers in baseball. There are more important thing than platoon advantage. You Farrell basher's sound like a bunch of Bobby Valentine supporters, I bet he would have played the splits.

Is it selfish to say that I'm happy X isn't in the lineup? Moving into a new place means no cable/wifi for beyond today. If there's ever a time for a SP follower to miss out on watching games, it's now. So I sympathize with the early morning members who miss out on West Coast Trips. Speaking of which, could someone give a quick (beyond the boxscore) rundown for the board on Xander's first MLB game? Not many know this kid and baseball in general quite like this board, and I know I, and those who missed the game, would greatly appreciate it.
Anyway, I would be disappointed with X sitting against a lefty too if I had the game, but it's not like Drew starting is such a bad thing. He has a .333/.343/.455/.797 career line vs. Zito is pretty good. Sure it's a SSS, but his 35 AB's against Zito are the 10th most among all pitchers faced. You're not going to find much greater of a sample size than this. So sitting him today probably wouldn't send a great message to Drew, for whatever that's worth. X will get his time, this is just the start of great great things to come.

Sox should do some damage off Zito. Hope F. D. pitches a good game. With the day off tomorrow I'd take him out early if he gets hit. 2 out of 3 would be fine.

Bringing in Tazawa to face 4 straight lefties against the Mariners when Thornton was warmed up. Also, no one can explain to me why Carp is barely getting playing time. Farrell ran Napoli into the ground when it was medically documented he had a hip condition.

Looked comfortable not overwhelmed at all. Not sure where you're at, but a nice tip to a beer tender should get the game on for ya at a local sports bar.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but listening to Farrell's excuse for his "bullpen management" last night, shouldn't he play to win the game or assure his team has a chance to win the game? By not using Koji or Workman because he was afraid to lose them since they would bat 4th in the next inning, he lost the game. What's more important, a win/giving your team a chance or using your closer in a save situation? I don't agree with most of his in-game decisions to be perfectly honest, I find it that he's an excellent clubhouse/players manager but his in-game tactics leave a lot to be desired.

Doubront got lit up bad his last game and can bank on it that Workman is who Farrell is counting on whould that happen again to throw 70-90 pitches and cover his tail to cover Doubront again should he put up another miserable performance and go through another streak like he did back in may. The team right now doesn't even have anyone capable of going 3-5IP, we haven't seen Britton go that long with the Sox. Having Workman got 2 straight games, then throw that many pitches would have knocked him out of rescuing Doubront and the team tomorrow. Give him credit for thinking ahead and for Uehara? A guy with an extensive injury history? Is it really worth throwing him out there in a tie game and 2 on and then if they get out of it, wondering then who would close if they even do manage to get a lead sometime later on? I don't get some of the BP bashing going on here sometimes. Morales was one of the best they had last year and was trying to get him back and slid right in to add a 4th reliable arm, it didn't work out after he got upset at the HP umpire, but he looked ok until then. This bashing is going too far.

Ells with a leadoff double. HAVE to score here, esp on a pitcher like Zito.
ADDED: ugh.

For all the hate Napoli is getting, Pedroia has been very bad in the second half. A .590 OPS is very mediocre, extension pressure?

His velocity has been down all season. Per PITCHf/x, he's averaged 90.5 mph this year. It's not a good sign, but not all that alarming.
