Word. Bogie is in the majors to get him acclimated and some AB's here and there. No need to throw him in the fire, especially after the JBJ fiasco. That's a lot of drama, dude. The idea that a two-week dry spell for anyone, let alone a new player, is some sort of fiasco is the brand of soap opera that plays regularly in the Globe, and with the local talking heads. It's pure bull. You don't need to buy into that. An endless stream of players has started their career that way, and a countless number of them have come along just fine. Bradley will also. "Fiasco" was too harsh on my part. I still think Bradley is an above average ML player, to be clear.

And S. Petersburg loses again!

Balfour almost blew one to TB, but the Rays left the tying run on 2nd and winning run on 1st.
Sox with a 4.5 game lead in the division to begin September. Tampa has lost 7 of 8 with 7 more on the west coast before hosting the Sox

And S. Petersburg loses again! With Coco Crisp knocking in both A's runs and/or leading the offense in WPA, depending on which school(s) you belong to, including the eventual difference-maker, a solo shot insurance run in the bottom of the 8th. The Rays have now lost two straight one-run heartbreakers to a team and closer that had just come home from blowing a 6-3 lead over the Tigers with 2 outs in the ninth and a man on first (98.5% Win Probability). Balfour has a -.755 WPA in his last three games, but that includes two saves against the Rays. It's like someone was scripting this to make it as pleasurable as possible for Sox fans.

Maybe it's just because it's the end of a long season, but people on this board (not just this thread) certainly seem to have short fuzes lately.

11th straight game of holding the opponent to 3 or fewer runs (includes the Giants and White Sox but also the Dodgers). That's elite-level run prevention. Even without Buchholz (and especially without Dempster), the starting pitching has been excellent of late.

evandrellich: Red Sox 9/1 vs. CWS: Ellsbury CF, Victorino RF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Nava LF, Carp 1B, Saltalamacchia C, Drew SS, Bogaerts 3B, Doubront SP. And Bard just got DFA'd to make room for Berry.

Emphasis mine.
Point is, this was the plan guys. It's not like Farrell just doesn't like the kid or is an idiot. The plan, which was agreed upon by the front office and the manager, is to bring the kid up, let him acclimate himself to being a big leaguer and play every so often. Drew obviously isn't costing the team any wins and is playing good defense (against left handers too!).

Even without Buchholz (and especially without Dempster), the starting pitching has been excellent of late. What's the expression? Momentum is as good as your next day's starting pitcher. That streak started after Dempster drilled A-Rod and gave the Yankees all of the momentum in the world to make a charge Sox are 8-3 since then, and the Yanks are 8-4.

Bogaerts in there again today (3B). I disagree with those who say Farrell wasn't crazy about calling up him and wants to avoid using him. I think he loves him like we all do. He'll be in there against every LHP in the playoffs and probably some RHP too (at third).

As an aside, FSG investment Liverpool has jumped out to a fast start, top of the Premier League. Not sure if anyone has been watching but NBC Sports channel is carrying Premier League games now so they're on if you're interested.

John Farrell, filling out the lineup card today, glances at the SoxProspects message board open on his computer. "F*** it, Carp AND Bogaerts today. Let them put *that* in their pipe and smoke it."

The posters on this board who have been wanting Xander and or WMB to be promoted should feel vindicated. This provided the shot in the arm the lineup and team needed. This has also given Farrell some flexibility. The Sox are lucky there waiting didn't come back to haunt them.
Also Callis was on with Speier this morning and he said Margot has the potential to be the next Xander and Hanley coming thru the system. I am gonna miss him from BA.

That's not what he said at all, and I can already tell I'm going to get sick of this comparison before Margot even plays a full season. Margot has the potential to be our top prospect one day, that doesn't mean he has the potential to be Xander or Hanley Ramirez.

Not to steal any thunder from the Margot/Xander/Hanley/Babe Ruth debate, but I hadn't seen this Jose video posted on this board yet. I miss him.

Quintin Berry and John McDonald aren't the type of pickups that will make a lot of headlines, but they could pay enormous dividends going forward. Those are the types of guys that, at some point during the postseason, will make a big play or two
edit: Never mind. It won't be Bradford in the booth today.

One of the most important developments of this whole season, imo, is the development of Doubront into a playoff-caliber starter. The pitching looks fantastic for September and especially for next year. A starting five of Buchholz, Lackey, Doubront, Peavy, and Lester could easily be elite. Then the Sox will have Webster, RDLR (unless he's in the 'pen), Ranaudo, and Barnes in AAA rotation for depth and development. That's pretty great.

He had another great game last night. 2 for 3 with a walk and rbi. The rbi came on a squeeze play. As always he brought his glove. This is one of those trades that is working out for all. Peavey has been great for the sox, Iggy great for Detroit , and Chicago got what they wanted.

Why does Farrell not play Middlebrooks instead of Xander? Not ready for prime time.
