It's pretty crazy to me that, on a day where he looked visibly uncomfortable and wild, Buchholz still lowered his already-obscene ERA. Not sure if that says more about the nastiness of his stuff or the quality of the Yankee lineup.

Wait - Thornton is warming? Farrell must be serious about trying to get the Yankees into the playoffs. We might even see Allen Webster or RDLR tonight.

Wow. Bogaerts has had several pretty defensive plays since his promotion. That was one of them.

Fantastic Season. Still don't get why Farrell felt the need to put his second best reliever in the 8th inning. Wouldn't a little rest do Breslow some good too? We're not going to see Koji in the 9th - are we? I don't understand why Britton, Webster, and De La Rosa aren't the pitchers of choice tonight. Thornton, I can understand a little, but isn't this the perfect opportunity to see how Webster looks in relief? And it seems Britton has become very underworked lately. Wouldn't it be good to get more looks at him as well? And it wouldn't hurt to get RDLR some work too, I'd think.

Bogaerts was in SS position because of the Shift for Cano?

Things will never be the same after this, over the years there have been some Yankees I would have loved to see on this team, Williams, Rivera, Jeter. I can only Imagine watching Rivera was similiar to having watched Clemente.

It's not like Breslow has been abused lately - he's thrown once in the last four days entering tonight, and that was a 16-pitch appearance. If you look at his splits, he's actually not very good on >2 days' rest. www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=breslcr01&year=2013&t=p#dr

As long as they keep him reasonably rested and healthy - don't want to see any injuries occur this time of the year.

It's got to be absolutely demoralizing for the Yankees to get swept by this Red Sox team that has very little to play for but continues to lay waste to its opponents. Yankees are still only three games back but would have to overtake Baltimore (2.5) and Cleveland (0.5) to get a Wild Card spot.

I think Cleveland is getting in. Their schedule is stupidly easy down the stretch and TB and the Rangers play each other 4x, not to mention the Rangers and Rays have been reeling lately.

I hope Cleveland does get in and bumps out Tampa. Would prefer Cleveland/Texas (assuming Darvish pitches the Wild Card playoff) than Tampa. Would hate to see Price and Moore 3 times in 5 games.

Firstly, they have the hardest schedule between Cleveland, Texas and TB. I know you can't go entirely off of that but Tampa plays Texas, New York and Baltimore who will all be fighting tooth and nail for playoff spots. And then of course, there is the scenario where TB loses the one game playoff. Hopefully we get to face Cleveland.

Zagurski is listed at 240. I am skeptical. Puts a whole new light on my term "George Scott belly" The guy looks as huge as many older players would show up INTO ST from over the winter indulging, then lose the blubber during ST. It was of course normal pre mid 70's. The NYY should be ashamed for having "something" like that on national TV with their uniform on. It's embarrassing.

I am sure they are blaming it on injuries. But as a "True Yankee Fan" told me in 2011, "No team with a $180 million dollar or more payroll can blame injuries!" Which reminds me. I need to call that chick and remind her of that dictum. Now here's hoping Clev and one of Balt-NYY get in the WC. Or at least someone knocks Tampa out.

Does anyone have a picture of Zagurski from last night? I post on a football board and there's a bunch of Yankee fans on there. I want to make it my siggy. nesn.com/2013/09/joe-girardi-tells-yankees-players-hes-disappointed-with-their-effort-says-we-stunk-here-after-sweep-in-boston/

AL East Champions!!!!!!!!!! I mentioned earlier in the thread how cool it is to clinch at home. It will be even sweeter if we do it in front of Showalter and the O's. They acted like they won the World Series when they won the last game of the 2011 season.

Might be a little early to count the MFYs out just yet. They've got 9 of their last 12 games against last-place teams. They are just about cooked, but the flame will be turned down as they drift to the end of the season.
