10/5 Red Sox vs, Rays ALDS Game 2 Thread

I wouldn't be surprised if Price was not hurt a little. Why no curveballs and very few off speed pitches? It would be amazing for him to put up the numbers he has recently without the ability to throw breaking pitches but if he did it would be a testament to just how good he really is.
Lackey put up some decent numbers for a long time there with a bad elbow. It got to him eventually though.
I bet Price is moved this off season.

Agree. Tampa just doesn't pay anyone, regardless of how good they are, except in rare cases (Longo). They moved Shields last year when he was only owed 9m this year and 12m in 2014. Price made 10m this year and will get a nice raise via arbitration next year. There is no way Tampa will pay him well over 10% and more like 12-14% of the team's entire payroll for the 2014 season.

What a bunch of whiny bitches led by their manager and their supposed ace of their staff. They have been beat in every phase of the game so far in the ALDS. If you don't like Papi staring at his 2nd HR, then don't let him do it. Maddon's comments about being Out-fenwayed also come across as an excuse rather than accepting that they have been out-played. They play 9 to 10 games a year at Fenway. Perhaps they should put more work in practicing and hustling to back up your teammates.

Well, we do have to admit that we had 4 or 5 balls off the monster over the past 2 games that would have been caught elsewhere. But from Myers to Rodriguez, the outfield play hurt them as much.

Do the Rays not know they can hit the ball off the wall as well?

Do the Rays not know they can hit the ball off the wall as well? Of course. But you just can't dial in a 320' shot. The balls were not barreled up...and we got the benefit. Good for us and thank you gods of baseball.

I believe this is where the home field advantage was exemplified. Then again, that wall stays up in the top of the innings, as well. And let's not forget, Gomes' drive to dead center was a HR in most other parks. Meanwhile Papi's second HR probably would've hit the first catwalk in Tampa and been ruled a single.

If they move him it will be fascinating to watch. They could well get 1-2 blue chip position players to complement Myers and Longoria. As odd as it seems, they could actually get better by degrading their starting pitching slightly but greatly improving their position play. Imagine, say, Rizzo and Soler (though I dpn't think Cubs will be players), or Profar and (insert top prospect here); etc. Kind of crazy.

The Red Sox just look like they're playing at a faster speed than the Rays. Their decisions are quicker, they're getting to the bases before the Rays ... beyond the physical skills, they just look better at baseball than the Rays do. Some of that is comfort with the surroundings at Fenway, but most of it isn't. They're just better and more aggressive than the Rays are, more able to handle the environment of playoff baseball at this point.
Could change quickly in a 5-game series, tho ...

Remember that time Price threw a hissy fit on Twitter after getting shelled in a must-win game? What a clown.

Several takeaways from that game: Contrary to my comment, in retrospect I am glad that Drew played instead of Bogaerts, not so much because of his weak fly fenway "triple", albeit after a good struggle vs. a poor Price, but each of those double plays came with a pitcher on the ropes..and several, were difficult and close- game changers.
Secondly, it will be painful to lose Ellsbury, what a spark!, after we make our overpaid shorter term offer. Jackie B. reminds me of circa 1976 pre-bulked up Fred Lynn- the great jump and glide of a less than speedy gold glover, the arm, the gap power, the contact.. and Jackie did adjust better in his later at-bats. J.B.J. seemed to put on muscle and slugging this year, no?
TBS broadcasters so typical (formerly Joe Morgan being one of the worst)- good in game player mechanics observations, not such good longer term player analysis- Koji did not come out of nowhere, he was amazing and consistent, by far their best signing.
Lastly, if indeed Abreu has only slider speed bat speed not useful against even a weakened Price and the bullpen they brought out yesterday.

Can't ask for any better out of the first 2 games. Now , silence the cow bells and get some rest for the next series. LOL. If they win game 3 at the Trop? I'll ask my son to put the ticket in some kind of frame he keeps several in, that also has some I gave him from the infamous "Yankee massacre" series back in '78 when I was at Fenway for that brutal series.

That could easily be the case: The Rays have played 41 games in 43 days.

The memory lane discussion formerly contained in here is a fine one. It also had zero to do with game 2, so it's been broken out and is ready for continued reminiscing in the off-topic forum.
