Why is the strike zone all of a sudden shrinking?

Seriously, **** this third-rate excuse for a stadium.

Pathetic. Had an out nixed by this dump stadium, and 3 of the 4 balls were actually strikes. Yes they were. Maybe Clay's stuff has too much movement. The one curve dropped in over the outside corner then just kept on falling sharply.

Buchholz had to throw about 15 extra pitches because the Rays play in a Backyard Baseball stadium.
Tampa shouldn't have a pro sports team ever again.

It's Farrell and his staff. They've been excellent with that stuff all year. But of course, like 90% of major league managers, he's not perfect in bullpen management, and he didn't immediately bench one of the top 10 shortstops in baseball in favor of a 20-year-old, so he should be fired post haste. Obviously. This really is true. Well, like everything, it's a mix of players and staff, but reading between the lines of a lot of different comments, it's clear that Farrell and staff give a lot of really good, well-prepared information to players who are hungry to put it into use. Solid stuff ... and an underrated reason why this team is so enjoyable. It's just good baseball, really pleasing to watch. What's all the more impressive, and less obvious to appreciate, is that they communicate this information without overwhelming anyone. And that means that the amount and style of info is tailored to each guy's comfort level. A perfect example just now: Clay obviously said to Salty "changeup low and away" and Salty reacted like they were confident that was right, because of what they knew about Joyce.

The only thing more pathetic than that pitch was a curtain call in the 5th inning for a game-tying homer.

Farrell is going to leave Buch in too long, isn't he? He needs to come out, like now.

Could Clay come up any smaller than he did tonight?

Could Clay come up any smaller than he did tonight? He wasn't his sharpest, but that sounds a little harsh. That inning with the catwalk foul and the ump squeezing the hell out of him drove his pitch count up a lot. Just like the Rays shouldn't have pitched to Papi, you gotta question pitching to Longo like that. Right?

Could Clay come up any smaller than he did tonight? Yes. He could have melted down when the Rays had the bases loaded earlier. Silly mistake pitch to Longoria, but other than that, not awful. Not that this team has an incredible lineup, but he could have mailed it in more. Tie ballgame in the 5th -- anything can happen.

It wasn't silly - it was incomprehensible.
You don't ever give Longoria something he can crush in that situation. It was dumber than Maddon opting to pitch to Ortiz.

Could Clay come up any smaller than he did tonight? This was more a strategic failure, you had to make Longoria do what Ortiz did and slap a single the other way at the most and face the lost at the plate Myers.
