I feel rejubinated. A few of the heavy posters in this thread really went silly, chew the crow with care. Thank you for the amazing photo

Seriously though, Xander is better than even I thought. I'll be stunned if he's not a superstar. Crazy how most youngsters might be in over there head in playoff situations. So impressed by this kid and excited about his future.

An off-topic, on-website comment: if Byron Buxton's been making plans for a party celebrating being named #1 prospect in baseball by BA and others, he might want to back off a bit.
And Xander's assertion that something strange happened to his pitch recognition in his second PA is one of the best interview moments I've ever heard. It's like even his own conscious brain is surprised at how good the unconscious part is.
"Every jumbled pile of person has a thinking part / that wonders what the part that isn't thinking / isn't thinking of."* In Xander's case, it turns out, it's "that's a slider, don't swing."

The best part is that the narrative is in place for Xander in Boston. People love him and will give him the benefit of the doubt if he struggles next year (he won't).

So I obviously wanted Gomes to start over Nava, but I was also begging Farrell to pinch hit Nava for Victorino with the bases juiced and 1 out... So basically I'm an idiot all around - big time win. Beat Acherzer twice (kind of) and Verlander... Wonder if Max is gonna strangle Leyland and remind him he can throw 120 pitches no problem.

Between D'Angelo Ortiz and Kaz Uehara the Red Sox have already won the World Series of Adorable Children.

He's so damn likable (postgame quote: "I can't guarantee a hit or a walk, but I can guarantee a good at-bat.") that I wonder if he's human sometimes. Just a great, great player.

I wonder if he's built a respect among the umpires already to get that call on ball 4 which was a strike but close.

BC I've watched him scuffle the last 4 games basically hopelessly. That was a terrible pitch... Obviously I was wrong but with him struggling to make contact, I wanted Nava to hit a fly ball and tie the game.

Just a reminder how ridiculous that 7th inning was: Xander takes ball four on a very borderline 3-2 pitch. Ellsbury hits a double-play ball that gets booted by the best shortstop in the American League. Victorino goes down 0-2. Then, fireworks. Just incredible.

So they cut away from Japanese questions for Koji but they would have aired a Victorino-Rice interview

Jeff Passan ?@jeffpassan 20s David Ortiz just opened two beer bottles with his teeth. Wow. Uhhhhh HAHAHA. They are easy, twist off types now that darn near fall off.. should have gone to a bar way back and seen some of the face down drunks (nearly) too lazy to aks for a bottle opener, or tell the dude/lady at the counter to open the bottle and see them try that trick.. Hilarious indeed my friend. Bottled beer had caps that you didn't get off period without an openber, same with Coke, pepsi, anything like that.

So, here goes my night: Me and my girlfriend along with another couple of ours go to the movies watch Gravity. Terrific movie, really, I have no words to describe it other than "do caralho", and most of you won't undestand it. Oh well.
Then cut it, we're in a bar, talking about mostly random stuff. The game is 2 x 1 Detroit and I'm feeling kind of down. My girlfriend sees that and asks whats troubling me. I don't know how to answer that. And then... And then it's that inning with the bases loaded and my Gameday says "In Play (Runs)", around that time my access goes off and I have no idea what happened. When I come back, I'm punching everyone in sight, and my girlfriend asks me what the f*ck happened. I try to explain it, but it's easier said than done.
I love this team, I love you guys, I love everything right now.

No one was more valuable to the Red Sox than Prince Fielder. Yet another big name, big money, free agent signing that's working out less than stellar.
