I've never seen Christian Vazquez play, but he is almost 24, has a good amount of minor league experience, and he is right handed. Everything I've read or heard about him indicates that he is good defensively and calls a good game. He honestly can not be worse at the plate than David Ross, so I say bring him up and give him a shot.

Middlebrooks, see Drew suddenly hitting? See the glasses? 1/10th of a second better reaction time is the difference between a hit ball and a swing and miss.

Really, Ross and Gomes against RHP! I know Ross is Lester's binkie, and I know that you want to rest JBJ, but do you have to do both on the same night? Not to mention, that's a bit of a scary OF defensively, especially in Fenway. The Holt in CF experiment makes more sense when he can be flanked by Victorino. How is the experiment going?

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop on Holt...and then he goes out and singles, makes a great catch in his first ever game in CF, doubles, and steals third...all before the end of the 3rd inning. Dude is unreal.

GordonEdes Gordon Edes Too soon for Cooperstown, but not too late to write in Brock Holt for All-Star Game, as he doubles off Monster for 2d hit, and now SB of 3d 7 minutes ago

Why was Gomes wearing sunglasses at this time of the day?..no wonder he lost track of that ball.

Nice to be back in town after a long business trip...
OK, time to ask what positions Holt can't play. Maybe the BABIP is a dream, but he plays so hard, and he seems to have figured out Fenway very fast. If nothing else comes out of the season than figuring out what value the rookies have, that will be a big deal.

Holt at 3b next year, Xander back to shortstop and Mookie in CF next year?

If Holt and Bogaerts are both starters, doesn't it make more sense to play Holt SS, Bogaerts 3B?
From the Matt Huegel's article of last spring:

The reason they sent Holt down at the start of the year is because they felt Herrera was better than him at short. I think they will use him like Zobrist for as long as he hits.

This is what a skinny one run lead looks like. Two run total: not going to hold up. Lester pitch count up there. Yup, JL gone for the evening 6+.

If Holt and Bogaerts are both starters, doesn't it make more sense to play Holt SS, Bogaerts 3B? From the Matt Huegel's article of last spring: I think their actions are pretty telling on this one. When Drew missed a few games last week, they put Herrera at SS rather than playing Holt there, and Holt indeed has not played a single game at shortstop this season for the major league club. They seem plainly more comfortable with Xander at SS as opposed to Holt.

Also: Craig Breslow has had no ability to consistently throw strikes this entire season. He now has a 5.96 BB/9 (I'd find BB% for you mgoetze, but I'm just too lazy) this year. He should not be throwing any high-leverage innings for this team for the foreseeable future.
