It's good to see all the "end of the world" negativity is back in this town lol. I know we won the World Series last year, but everyone on this team is garbage. Let's trade Lester, Lackey, Pedroia, Ortiz (hell, anyone over 25 yrs old gets the boot). Then let's tank for the #1 overall pick so we can get a shiny new prospect to talk about. Some of you guys are really unbelievable. They are 6 games back of the Wild Card with half a season to go. There are ways to both add and subtract to help the team in both the short term and long term . They gave Buccholz coming back soon however based on his performance and contract you are not going to get much for him. Conversely if they trade Peavy for an OF prospect it will help the current team by freeing up a rotation spot to keep RDLR in there where get belongs while acquiring a an OF who could help the team over a longer term period. There are plenty of teams such as the Pirates, A 's, and Blue Jats which need another starter.

The good news: Drew is sitting against the lefty. The bad news: Herrera is playing in his stead.
Brock Holt RF Xander Bogaerts 3B Dustin Pedroia 2B David Ortiz DH Mike Napoli 1B Jonny Gomes LF Jonathan Herrera SS David Ross C Jackie Bradley CF
At least Lester is facing another lefty... Ross will be slightly less awful batting.

And we on here as well as others in the Boston sports media are quick to point out how bad Peavy has been this season, so just because another team needs another starter, that does not mean they would take Peavy off our hands. He has 0 value right now. Big contract, free agent to be, bad season.

Hard contact even on the outs. Continue this for 8 more innings, please.

How much if any time has Holt spent at shortstop?

How much if any time has Holt spent at shortstop? None in the Majors. But he'd also spent no time in the outfield and now, only a week later, is a stud at all three positions. I wonder how he would do at short.

Third A's starter in a row that has nothing. Hopefully the sox get 1 win out of it. Lucky it's Lester and Lackey, not lesser and lacking.
Agree with theaveragefan88 that Peavy has no trade value right now. Sox would have to pay most or all of his salary.

David Ross, ladies and gentlemen - doing the best he can to argue for a strict L/R catching platoon (or, "How the personal catcher actually worked out once…" by John Farrell)

How much if any time has Holt spent at shortstop? He's spent more time at shortstop than any other spot in his professional career. 283 games in the minors with 1,207 chances and a .954 fielding percentage. He'll be able to handle occasional action at the position just fine.

Eck says "that's in the seats in probably 90% of the ballparks".
OK, which are the other 2 parks that have as much foul territory as O.co Colliseum?

That was some pretty ugly disgusting fielding by Gomes.

That was some pretty ugly disgusting fielding by Gomes. And Xander. I know it's against the rules to say anything against the top prospect but he isn't a good fielder at ss or 3b. Lester gets out of it even needing 5 outs.

He'll be able to handle occasional action at the position just fine. Do you think he's proficient enough at the position to be the only back up middle infielder on the roster? If so, that would really provide a lot of flexibility going into next season.
P.S. - One thing that gets overlooked a little is that Holt is making the Mark Melancon deal not look quite so bad.

If Xander is playing short Holt will be more than proficient as a back up. There will probably not be any drop off.

Why do you think I'm asking about Holt's proficiency at short? Is it outlandish to envision Holt at SS, Cecchini at 3B and X in LF?
