They have messed with Xander, Should not of signed Drew and messed with his development and most importantly, CONFIDENCE IF X's confidence is destroyed becuase he went to third base, he would have never succeded in MLB... Thats on X not the sox

Even Herrera almost hit a HR ... A's must be looking around for more starters who are worth an entire dollar.

Do I really need to remind people that Xander is 21? Playing the IF at the major league level is more about practice and repetition than natural ability. There is no substitute for experience.

Tell Machado that

Xander going through a slump is likely because he's a 21 year old rookie baseball player, not because his confidence has been shattered by moving positions

Why do you think I'm asking about Holt's proficiency at short? Is it outlandish to envision Holt at SS, Cecchini at 3B and X in LF? Cecchini still needs to improve defensively, Holt i wouldn't put it passed him! Brock has played outstanding defense wherever he has played this season!! He has the instincts to play any position he wants too. Brock wants it!

I can come with just as many players who worked to become very good fielders as you can come up with naturally gifted fielders. Wade Boggs

Has everything to do with him being 21.

There's a bit I'd like to tell Machado, but no need to go there right now. No one claimed Bogaerts was in that class as a fielder, but he only has to be good enough for the bat to carry the glove. That should be easy. And the pop psychology is just useless, in my opinion. Ballplayers get hot, then they cool down, then they get hot, then they cool down, then... How about being thankful he was on fire during the playoffs last year? As sure as the sun rises tomorrow, he'll get hot again, with all the manlove from the board that leads to.

I think he is just getting adjusted to the pitchers @ AAA.

Xander has never been, is not, and will never be an elite fielder. But his bat is that good to where it shouldn't matter. If he wasn't in the midst of an offensive slump (like almost every other player on the Sox) his defense wouldn't be an issue. He's not going to be a gold glove fielder.
Machado has his own problems

You can tell me he is a punk or anything else you would like and I would agree . JimEd said you have to learn to be good defensively. I think you can get better with work. But I think that most guys who are really good defensively always have been. Machado being one. Two kids my son played with one has always been great defensively. The other kid is a stud did everything well except he would make errors in the infield. Dad had a private coach for him and he worked at it everyday. The first kid starts as a D1 shortstop and has since he was a freshman. The other is in the minors and has moved off short and still has a ton of errors. He is a great athlete but I think he will end up in the outfield. He is still young but we will see.

You might think they're good defensively, but watch them for 1400 innings and see how many mistakes are made.

You might think they're good defensively, but watch them for 1400 innings and see how many mistakes are made. That would take real effort and you can't expect fans of a lazy unmotivated team (except for Pedroia) to be anything more than the guys on the field. It's like when a kid gets caught doing something bad and says "You know why I did it? Because I learned it from you!"

Pedroia fly balls to the right side of the field are the worst. He just has no power to ever drive them beyond medium-depth outfield.

You might think they're good defensively, but watch them for 1400 innings and see how many mistakes are made. Your right I have seen them play more games than I have seen Xander as I have only seen him play for 80 games or so. I just don't anoint someone as the next coming. If they earn it fine. Xander has already been crowned by a lot of people. I see a lot of talent and a very good athlete. But I see the warts that the people who have crowned him do not seem to see. It is the same thing as when MLB was trying to jam Harper down my throat and talking about these great catches he was making. Then I would see a piss poor route that caused the great catch from one that should have been an easy out. He is a 21 year old Major League player which is impressive. But he is not a star. A lot of people here were saying he was going to be rookie of the year and an All Star. Will he get better I sure as hell hope so.
