Pedroia fly balls to the right side of the field are the worst. He just has no power to ever drive them beyond medium-depth outfield. Hard to believe that he has lost power due to age. The way he is hitting suggests that the hand is bothering him,- can't grip and pull thorough. He is hitting more to right, and pulling less. Some days he does pull, and those are usually productive days.

Bullpen really failed in this one. That is the story of the season. When one thing goes good another stinks. They could still win but damn it is getting old.

That's why I don't want to hear about vets dogging it. Papi is in there to go deep, not hustle.

Other than Herrera doing his best Juan Marichal impersonation, good game.

Say all you want about our manager, but the A's just had their closer have his first ab in a one run game. I don't care he came up as a position player.

Yeah, a downside of using lots of defensive replacements and pinch-hitters is that you might get screwed if one of your guys gets injured, like Norris did in the tenth. Vic Martinez sometimes really does get eaten by dinosaurs.

Far too interesting in the 8th and 9th for my taste but i'll take it.
Papi needs to catch fire. Hopefully this is a spark.

Doolittle has far more professional hitting experience than the starters, about 1000 minor league at-bats Again, significantly more hitting experience in the last 5 years than any of their starters. It was a no win situation, and at least they had someone who had seen regular at-bats in the last 5 years

It does seem that whenever the pitching is lights out they can barely score, and when they stack up a few hits, the pitching gives out. Tough year, with a lot of regression from last season. Shouldn't be this hard, but some years are like that, I guess. On to Seattle, where I get to watch them go up against the King and his (improving) court.

Any laziness on the part of the Red Sox today was met or exceeded by Team USA during the last minute of play against Portugal.

Who's the best player on this team? Who's the only player in the starting lineup who didn't get a hit in the first 9 innings?
