Bradley Fletcher was pretty bad for the Eagles. I wouldn't get your hopes up, but then again, Chung was one of the worst players in the NFL away from the Patriots. He was legitimately terrible last year (most yardage given up by a cornerback in the league), but (a) he was mostly used to match up against the opponent's number one receiver, so he had to deal with the Dez Bryants and Jordy Nelsons of the world, and (b) he was a solid starting cornerback for the Rams as recently as two years ago and is still in his prime (age 28). It's reportedly a one-year deal with a max value of $2.5m, likely with very little of it guaranteed and a good chunk of it in incentives. Not ideal, but a buy-low candidate that you cut in training camp if he looks as bad as he did last year but has the potential to be a depth guy or even a league-averagish starter.

Breer was on the radio this morning suggesting that both Fletcher (outside) and McLain (inside) are depth signings. Not suprising. As Jon suggests, either could be cut during training camp.
It was also suggested (can't remember if it was Bert or if he was agreeing with one of the hosts0 that the number 1 corner is likely not on the roster yet.

I like the Bradley Fletcher signing. When I look at DB the number one stat I look at is pass deflections. Sure I like Interceptions, but how many balls is the defender getting his hands on is more important. Last two years Fletcher had 15 PD and 22 PD last year. He gets his hands on a lot of passes. Revis lead our team with 14 PD last year. The Eagles pass D was just Bad for the last two years. I am putting most of the blame on the Eagles coaching and Schemes. Remember Kelly in College, always a great offense and a poor to ok D. Now I don't think he's a number one corner or anything like that, but I do think he could start something like 8 games next year if not more. As for a Value signing I think its great. Sure he might get cut, but at what he makes I see him easily making this team. That could change if they draft a couple of corners in the drafts early rounds.
Ryan, Arrington, Butler and Dennard are currently our top 4. Then a couple of practice squad players. Are Butler, Ryan and Dennard better then Fletcher? Can't wait for camp because that should be a great battle.

The most important thing with Fletcher is how many times he's getting burned deep. Hopefully he's a dime back.

So if someone starts 8 games what does that mean?

Andrew Healy of Football Outsiders with an attempt to quantitatively determine the positive and negative value of free agent signings: www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2015/free-agency-cost-benefit-analysisThis is necessarily a very rudimentary way of looking at "value" since performance in football is much, much more difficult to quantify than performance in baseball and is much more context-dependent. But it aligns with what I've been arguing in this thread and what we all know to be Belichick's M.O.: don't pay more than you think a guy is worth, pick up undervalued assets, and exploit the compensatory draft pick regime.

2 draft predictions:
1. Pats will pick a player at #97 (okay, that's cheating as its one of the 2 comp picks the Pats received tonight - also get a 7th). 2. Pats will NOT pick a player at #96
Just see that with #97 locked in, that just increases the likelihood that 96 moves.

Everyone loves to hate on Goodell - and for good reason - but the NFL owners are the biggest issue. They're the ones pulling all of Roger's strings, and all they care about is making sure they're richer next year than the year before...even if it means avoiding costs on things that will make the game better.

Reports are that Brandon Carr might get cut by Dallas if he continues to refuse a pay cut. He's been a bust on that contract but has anyone seen enough of him to know if he's worth a shot (I assume part of the answer is "depending on cost").

Well he plays for the Jets and a lot of people who get tats do it to tell a story of their life so it does make sense. If he doesn't have a pats tattoo then you have a gripe.

So, does anyone believe the Pats will draft a player tonight?

So, does anyone believe the Pats will draft a player tonight? I think they actually might make a pick. Gurley goes Top 10. Because he is that good. He has AP kind of ability. That's the only RB since that's been worthy of a 1st round pick in my opinion. I'm on board with the majority who feel that you don't spend a 1st rounder at that position. He looks like a mold breaker to me. He and Tre Mason are going to be an amazing RB duo.

3 picks to go, any chance Indy passes on Malcom Brown?
Add: Indy goes offense, like the player (Dorsett) hate the pick for them.
2 picks to go, lots of options, really surprised Brown is still available. Couple of good S's and DT's. Randy Gregory too risky?
Add 3: Wow, the pick is in early....they got their guy is the only reason they would submit this early, right?....who we got....?
Wooooooooooo!!!!!!
Malcom Brown, DT Texas Longhorns

Great pick. I thought the Colts - who get shredded - and Detroit were gonna take him. There was a report that they had traded pick.

Awesome pick! I really didn't think he'd last. Then again, Randy Gregory is still on the board, isn't he? Strange stuff happening in this draft.

BB knows how to use guys better than any other coach, its one of the reasons he is the best coach. I like the Fletcher signing with that in mind. Tampa used Revis wrong. Phil. used Asomugha wrong. It happens all the time. BB puts guys in position to succeed at what the are good at. You can't ask Browner to play off the ball. I agree on the PD stat. Yes it means he is targeted but it also means he is going to be when covering some of the best WR out there. Really like the Brown pick, he should have been gone by then. I'm sure the Pats are ecstatic he fell. Hopefully Easley is ready to go this yr.
