Those stats as a (still young) middle infielder? I mean, I guess you could pick a different verb, but it'd have to imply some sort of humiliation of the competition.

Really? .400/.474/.560 in A ball and .336/.417/.523 in High-A. Maybe he didn't "destroy" them, only thrashed them within an inch of their life? Yeah, the equivalent would be if Benintendi debuted with Greenville for 12 games and then went up to Salem for 30 this season and hit extremely well in both stops. It's by far the most aggressive this regime has ever been with a draft pick. EDIT: See below two posts.

Except maybe Craig Hansen. And maybe Abe Alvarez in his second year.

Cla Meredith also made his MLB debut less than a year after being drafted (signed June 18, 2004 and debuted May 8, 2005).

Relievers are different ... I don't think you can compare their promotion schedules to other players.
Abe Alvarez, though, that's a good one. He got fast-tracked. Ah, were we really ever so young as to buy into that?

I completely misread Baseball Reference page on Pedroia. Not sure how I did that. He obviously mashed in A ball.

I wonder if Lakins wants over slot? Ryan Hannable confirmed with Orleans that Lakins is not pitching for them.

He covers the Big 10 for a blog. And you're right about him having the follower bona fides. Seems legit.

This kid was so hard to get a read on. In Twitter he never mentions the Sox and has a picture of his Ohio State team. I thought it was gonna be a hard sign. That's good it's over with.

So now 26 draftees have been signed. Ten days left. Who else is likely to sign?

So now 26 draftees have been signed. Ten days left. Who else is likely to sign? My thinking is that if someone hasn't signed (or declared that they're not signing) yet, they're likely holding out for more money. Given that we now know exactly how much we have left to go overslot on Rounds 11-40, there isn't much left to negotiate. I think maybe we can allocate enough funds to get 1 more guy from those rounds, but not sure who. My preference is Brakeman if he would sign for the remaining $. My assumption is that all but one of the guys remaining won't sign.

It could also be the Red Sox waiting to see how much money they have left for bonuses before even engaging in negotiations. There's little point to negotiating details with Brakeman, for example, if he wants >$100k to sign until you know how much money you have. Plus, I'm sure the Astros situation last year has teams being much more cautious with such things.

We know they've done this under the old system (keep radio silence for a while, then offer a big number a week before the signing deadline), and the incentives would be even stronger to do so under the new system with guys that you don't think you can sign (you don't want to commit to giving out more money than you have available and having to renege on deals).
