Our C's are back in two days! BUT -- the big ol' trade deadline looms tomorrow at 3pm. It looks like today is going to be a bunch of posturing, and stuff will come down to the wire tomorrow... I honestly hope the Celtics hold off making a move. I know Danny is tempted to overpay, but this group could keep the 3 seed and do real damage to a Cavsless side of a playoff bracket.
Re: the Rondo talk- boy am I glad we have IT and Smart. Love those guys.

Morning update from Bulpett (who seems fairly tied in to the C's):
1. Boston calling about Griffin and WOULD include BRK pick 2. BRK pick NOT in play for Love or Horford (and haven't talked to ATL in days). Concerns about Love injuries (not just shoulder) 3. Teams asking about Crowder, Smart, Bradley, Thomas and Olynyk 4. Nothing hot at this time

Also, Nets have hired Sean Marks (from SA) to be GM. By all accounts, a good move (far cry from yesterday where Prokohorov said he never heard of Marks)

I think the Prokhorov quote was a joke.

This could easily be like the draft where Danny can't turn his pick into anything. I'd rather have that happen than overpaying for an aging star.

I didn't think it was to be taken literally. Joke or his way of saying "no comment".

Houston got a 1st rounder (top 8 protected) for Motiejunas (and Thornton). Makes me wonder what we could get for Sully (though it could just be SVG being crazy)

Thaddeus Young the latest name to come up in Boston rumors.

Motiejunas is legit, and if he's healthy (a big if, obviously), it's not a terrible trade for the Pistons. SVG loves big men who can shoot, and Motiejunas is also a good defensive player and skilled in the post.

Thaddeus Young the latest name to come up in Boston rumors. I'm pretty confident that one of the reasons Ainge is considering trading for Young is that it increases the lottery odds on this year's Brooklyn pick.

Really hoping for #2 in the lottery. Not a great chance, but after Ingram there's a big dropoff this year.

There is still value after those guys though likely more for other teams than us. Similar to the situation where Boston lost out on Oden/Durant but was still able to turn #5 into Ray Allen.
I think there will be good players after that (Dunn, Ellensen, maybe Bender is more like Kristaps than some of the flops that have come over) though they may not move the needle for us. But Danny might be able to get value out of #5 by trading it, once he's certain it won't be #1 (much like he got value after losing out on Durant/Oden)

I know he hasn't had a great year, but I'm still on the Ellenson hype train. There's a big drop after Ingram but there's still some very good value there even if Danny keep the pick.
Some trade needs to be done however, unless he plans to have the best D-league team ever.

Now I'm going to lose my mind trying to figure out who he's referring to, but Ainge indicated that they were close on a blockbuster deal (including the BRK pick) for a star and one that was not included in any of the rumors.
It also seems that it might be something that could be revisited.

It also seems that it might be something that could be revisited. My pet theory is Jimmy Butler. Danny indicated the deal was for a player around whom we haven't heard rumors swirl; Chicago has publicly seemed a little cool on how JBuckets is handling stardom. I'd be pretty happy with a Butler upgrade this summer, maybe in a deal focused around Avery. Not interested in moving the Brooklyn pick for him, though. I have to disagree re: the lack of depth in this class. I think we're going to be seeing some meteoric rises in stock through March Madness. Buddy Hield is a guy I like a lot who would probably be available near the end of the lottery--my ideal draft would include a #1 or #2 for Simmons or Ingram, and a trade into the bottom of the lottery for Buddy.

I'm going with Paul George (at least, partly, bc I want it to be Paul George).

Butler would be great too! Maybe even better since, if it's George, I gotta believe that Crowder is part of the package (just from a positional standpoint as they both play SF or, technically in Stevens system, both are a Swing). Butler would be more of a wing player so maybe Bradley ends up being the guy that would go.

I'm thinking it was someone a tier down from that. The Brooklyn pick is super valuable, but (as of right now) it only has ~25% odds of being one of the first two picks, and a guy like George or Butler (in other words, a true stud signed to a long-term, below-market deal) is worth more than that. I'd guess maybe someone like Gordon Heyward or Eric Bledsoe. But maybe I'm just trying to temper my own enthusiasm.
ADD: with that said, if it was something like Crowder plus the pick, then maybe it was George or Butler. I certainly could see the Pacers or the Bulls deciding to blow it up.

I don't recall the source (or the credibility of the source), but there was some chatter that Butler may be available. I bet it was him and the deal was Bradley, BKN 1st, plus other picks for Butler.

BC I'm a tad obsessed, I'll over analyze Danny's comments. He said, in what I assume was an explanation of why the other team may have backed off, something to the effect of other teams still having championship and playoff aspirations and that teams are concerned about the ability to acclimate new players into a system with only 25 or so games left (paraphrasing). Taken at it's face value, this says it's a playoff contender so that probably eliminates Phoenix.
It also suggests that the player(s) going over in the deal would have value in contributing to a playoff team (though moving to a new system might downgrade that contribution). That would suggest that it's a current starter (or, at least, rotation player) plus the pick (and maybe other combinations). Maybe even multiple rotation players.
This is where my heart would impact my thought process. Even if I could right my mind to GH being worth the Brooklyn pick, I'd struggle with the idea of the pick AND one of our starters (plus other considerations) for him.
Now, if it was a MONSTER deal that involved multiple rotation players plus THE pick (along with other picks/youngins) for Heyward AND Favors (with Lyles taking over for DF next to Rudy), well now I'm intrigued. But that's just me thinking wishfully (and crazily).

Fantastic team W against the Nuggets after the embarrassing end to the Utah match. Brad was pissed -- I'm glad the team got the message. I didn't get to watch but hopefully there'll be highlights up soon. While we wait: Jordan Mickey vs. the Jazz!
Sully with 16/11/5 in 23 minutes tonight. This guy gets a LOT of stick for his weight but the stuff he can do in 22-28 mpg is fantastic, his rebounding his invaluable/genuinely astonishing for a short fat no-hops big man. But for all I love him, I just can't talk myself into a big contract for the guy... is his commitment to weight loss and conditioning for real, or will he let the dollar signs get in the way of calorie counts?

Bulpett reporting that a source says the target was Okafor. I heard that while watching the game. Was and still am a little shocked. Can see him becoming a brook lopez type player in a few years. But we need a defensive big and he is very bad right now at D. Add in the fact that he could have hurt us more this year then helped us and it's shocking that Danny was going to trade our best asset for Okafor.
