Pretty disappointing result for a first rounder. It's not like we get a first round pick every year...

The fact that the Celtics and Red Sox both played and won tonight and they're talking about freaking Dominique Easley on BOTH Nesn and Comcast is absurd. I get the NFL guys are really invested in making it a 24/7 league but the April football stuff will never be that interesting.

Other than pointing to him missing a lot of time and not being there when it mattered most (huge issues for sure); it's hard to say this isn't a big loss on the field. The guy was turning into a force on the field. Granted the sample wasn't big but he was disruptive up the middle and changed the defense. He would have been a game changer defensively this year if he stayed on the field. Football teams acquire a number if players for roles hoping that some pan out. They just lost one of their biggest upside players. That hurts a good deal.
Unfortunately, he was a scum bag and their pre-draft vetting process either failed them or they got double greedy due to how good he is when healthy.

Has anyone ever traveled to a Patriots road game? I'm considering doing it for Cleveland this year, especially since the Pats home games are so expensive and I've been a bunch of times. Is it worth doing?

Belichick's record with Florida players is awful, with Brandon Spikes the only one with a full season as a contributor. Chad Jackson, Jermaine Cunningham, Easley all awful on and off the field. Not to mention a 3-timer murderer.

Not to mention a 3-timer murderer. So relevant!Bill drafts players based on talent level. Obviously, every team in the NFL is going to (hopefully) do thorough research on a potential player's background and what kind of person they may be. However, "The Patriot Way" has always seemed to be Bill's fallback when taking the risk on high-maintenance guys. The hope was and still is that the many veterans in the Patriots locker room (back then: Bruschi, Vrabel, McGinnest etc etc etc...) offer enough guidance for the troubled players to realize "hey if I want to win I have to be like them". Because to not adopt the Patriot way, is to go try and win somewhere else. The draft isn't the only place he takes risks on guys like this (Haynesworth, Moss, Dillon), and not all of these risks tend to work out, simply because they were resistant to the changes necessary. You probably didn't mean to imply an argument to any of this, but easy with criticism of the almighty Belichick.

It would be so tempting to just retire and never show up for another NFL event ever again and not show up for the Hall of Fame induction.

With the latest report that Brady lead the league in merchandise sales, I doubt Goodell would consider a league without Brady a "win".
One of the biggest misperceptions of this whole thing is that RG/NFL had it out for NE/Brady. Not true. He just chose the accusation of inflated footballs as the platform where he'd gain back a little respect (after a series of "bad looks"). I'm guessing he'd figure that NE/Brady would back down (Kraft did, Tom didn't) and he'd look like a winner.
That's not what happened and neither side backed down. Unfortunately for NE/Brady, the issue became about this power (which the players gave him) not about whether the balls were deflated or not.

Then Goddell wins. Sit 4 games, come back win Superbowl. He'd get blamed for Brady's premature retirement and absence from football.

It's all about Goodell being a Jets fan who hates the Patriots. See Spygate.

Tom wants to be best QB every, retirement after this doesn't help that. Another Superbowl does. If you want to save face sue the league, I wouldn't, but you could. At this point serve 4 games and then win another Superbowl. This just needs to be over.

I might buy that if the Jets didn't receive a significantly lighter punishment than the Chiefs for tampering for the same exact offense with a better player to boot. I don't think its a coincidence the league is based in NY, run by New Yorkers and the New York teams seemingly play by a different set of rules. That being said, I think you are right people are overestimatig Goodell's role. I think people are underestimating how much of this was the other owners, particularly the Giants and Cowboys owners seemed to really be pushing Goodell here.

And the guy running the league doesn't realize that or doesn't care.

Yeah honestly screw he NFL at this point. They're staring another road playoff loss in the face right now. The thing that concerns me is the Patriots have struggled on the road vs good teams and I just don't see them beating two in a row on the road.

If Brady walks away tomorrow, only one owner is going to be upset. The other 31 team owners are like our chances at Superbowl just went up. NFL has been trying to sell parity for years. Tom Brady and the Patriots dominate year in and year out. I agree from a pure financial point of view Brady makes these owners a lot of money. These Billionaire owners though want to win at all costs. You just don't see tanking in NFL like you do in NBA and Baseball.
