I think they should try to subvert the rules and just give everyone $300K and slide the rest of the cash under the table. Seems foolproof, really. I just got off the phone with John Henry. You're replacing Hazen. The press conference is at 1 PM tomorrow right after the staged hug photo shoot with David Ortiz. A staged hug with David Ortiz would probably be the proudest moment of my lift. Except maybe those two times I had kids. It's close.

This may have been asked earlier, but if/when Groome signs, would his upside grade out as an 8? Is his upside considered a franchise pitcher?

The un-drafted player Reveles, 100,000? What is the info behind this player?

This may have been asked earlier, but if/when Groome signs, would his upside grade out as an 8? Is his upside considered a franchise pitcher? That is a good question I have asked myself. If Groome threw slightly harder I'd have him at 8. I'd like to see a scouting report to determine if he's an 8 as well. Right now I'd give him a 7. Maybe a 7.5 as a cop-out.

Spent to date..: $2,245,000 Red Sox Cap....: $6,997,400 ($3,804,600 without Groome) Red Sox Cap +5%: $7,347,270 ($3,994,830 without Groome)
Groome slot $3.193mm Dalbec slot $0.501mm (assume $500k) Shawaryn slot $0.376mm (assume $500k) Espinal slot $0.157mm (assume $100k)
Total slots $4.227mm ($1.034mm without Groome)
If Dalbec, Shawaryn and Espinal sign for my estimates, then there would be $4.0mm available to Groome. If Groome doesn't sign (but Dalbec, Shawaryn and Espinal do), then there would be approx. $650k available to round 11+ players.

Jim Callis @jimcallismlb 11 unsigned players in top 10 rds: 4 redsox, 2 @marlins, 1 each @mets, @pirates, @angels, @orioles & @whitesox. @mlbdraft Interesting that Braxton Garrett has not signed yet. I think his bonus will be another solid data point for Groome.

We're trying to save what we can with the other three and offer the rest to Groome, who is going to take it. If we can only offer so much, then we can only offer so much. Neither Groome nor his agent realistically expect us to go over the 5% overage for him. I wonder if the sox are playing hardball with all four of them in hopes of grabbing an 11+ round guy? At this point I think that's pretty unlikely.

Would have been nice to have drafted at least someone better at #4 other than Dalbec if it's going to take close to slot for him to sign however.

Either way, that's some high octane Malbec. Depends on your taste, I guess.

Believe me, I'm alone in this, but I actually like the Daibec pick. Yeah, you can bookmark this post for two years from now when he's a fry cook somewhere. He has a very high ceiling for somebody drafted that late. He has a very, very low chance of achieving it, but what chance do the players selected around him have? There are rumors his college coach tinkered with his swing and that messed it up. Could be reclaimed by a good hitting coach. If it doesn't work out as a hitter (where most seem to think he'll be tried first), then he can try pitching.
To me, the name of the game is producing at the major league level. It doesn't matter if you flame out in AAA or low A. No production at the MLB level is no production at the MLB level. He's about as close to the dictionary definition of a lottery ticket as you can get. Very small chance of paying off, but good return if he does.

University of Nebraska senior shortstop--Steven Reveles. Wouldn't seem to be any reason to pay him over $10,000.

Any info on that player or is it a mistake The "<" symbol before the $100,000 signifies that he signed for "less than" $100,000. In other words, his bonus does not count towards the cap. He probably didn't even get a bonus, or if he did, it was in the four figures.

There should be an entire subforum devoted to the proper usage of < and >.

Take a huge swing on the guy with 80 power. You're almost guaranteed to whiff or nub it, but if you make solid contact, it's going a long ways.

Chad Hardy is actually listed as a catcher. Could that be accurate?
