According to several reports, Jacoby Brissett will be undergoing surgery for a torn thumb ligament (this is NOT a joke). EDIT: Now they are saying it's just a sprain and no surgery is needed. I'll refrain from anymore updates since we could easily see a number of conflicting reports (as we was with JG injury). Expect to hear confusion and wild speculation right up till kickoff. The last thing Belichick wants is 10 days of gameplanning for Jacoby Brissett. Goofy little college trick plays notwithstanding, he looked mediocre last week.

The flip side is they have 10 days to get Brissett ready for Bills. Last week they only had a few days to get a rookie 3rd string QB ready and it showed on game day as they almost never threw down field over 10 yards. I think Brissett did a great job given the circumstances and can't wait to see what he does against Bills.

Pats with an anemic pass rush to start the day. Zero pressure along the edge so far.

I hope y'all are watching baseball today, because all these missed tackles by the Patriots are pretty depressing.

Ryan Allen is doing an amazing job again. But today, he seems to be the only one.

Which was a legit injury as he had a ton of tape on it. His throws were off today. I have to believe the Pat's crazy game plan to play not to lose instead of trying to win was a result of his thumb. The Bills having 10 days to prep wasn't the reason they lost. The game plan and penalties were. Oh yea and a ton of missed tackles on D! I just hated the game plan all game long!! Down 16-0 with 6 mins to play and 3 timeouts they are running the ball and throwing 3 yard passes. At that point you have nothing to lose, let the QB throw the ball down field. Would it hurt you to try and get Gronk the ball? If he throws an interception, so be it. I just want the play calls to give us a chance to win the game! If you didn't know the score you would have thought the Pat's had the lead.

If they weren't trying to win they could easily have made it 16-3 instead of 16-0, so that assumption seems a bit fishy.
Would it hurt you to try and get Gronk the ball? If that leads to Gronk aggravating the injury he's obviously not 100% recovered from, then yes, that hurts you big time.

That seems fishy haha! If you watched the game and didn't have a problem with play calling in this game then there is nothing to talk to you about! As for Gronk, if your not going to involve him, then why even play him. Give him more rest. I think Gronk is healthy enough to make an impact, it was the game plan and play calling that made him and most of our WR useless. They didn't want to throw the ball down field.

If a healthy Garoppolo starts this game, Patriots win big. You can argue this point, but it isn't going to make you right. The Patriots lost on Sunday because they couldn't move the ball. Giving up sixteen points to a solid offense is no small potatoes considering the field position.

Brissett wasn't very good in this game, but you seem to be overlooking the context of his two starts by saying he isn't a very good QB. Your looking at a rookie 3rd string QB, that doesn't yet know the complete offense and has had very limited reps. Add on the fact that he has a thumb injury that clearly bothering him last week. There are reports of torn ligament and the need for surgery . In this context he did a very good job and looks like he could turn into a great back up QB if not more in time. I was very upset about taking Brissett in the draft, but his play in preseason and his poise in the regular season have shown that was a good pick. Do you really think JG would have done what he did this year after 2 plus years of getting ready, when he was a rookie, with limited reps and an injury?

I know it's Cleveland, but damn Brady looks good. Nice to see him throwing bombs right on the money.

I knew that Gronk & Bennett would completely terrorize opposing defenses when Gronk was healthy again, and it sure is working out nicely.

What's wrong with Pittsburgh? We'll find out next week. Who will be the underdog? Can the Pats actually go in there as the favorites? I'm guessing -3.

@adamschefter 4m4 minutes ago Blockbuster deal: Patriots traded LB Jamie Collins to Cleveland for a compensatory third-round pick, sources tell ESPN.
---
In Belichick we trust and all, but what!? The idea of trading him isn't that far-fetched, but a 3rd round comp pick? The clubhouse is gonna be pretty frazzled too. Guess they're super high on Roberts.

Must've felt the locker room would be worse with reduced playing time (already seeing Roberts getting snaps plus addition of Van Noy) than it would be with him getting traded.
Extra week to get over it with the bye??
Still shocking, though.

Reports that Collins wouldn't follow plays and would just do whatever he wanted. Still just shocking. Did we overrate him? No other team would give up more than a late 3rd round pick? This has to be the most shocking move since cutting Malloy right before season started, heck this blows that out of water. He was seen as the future!
So we traded a 4th round pick for Mingo and got a 3rd for Collins. I mean couldn't Bill get them to throw in Gordon? I'm only half joking!
Also Collins wanted Von Miller money, wow that is so crazy.
