If Tom can get on the same page with Cooks and his speed it is going to be a very fun offense to watch.

By the way going back to the Devlin comments that were slid into yesterday's conversation... he really is an important piece to the offense. I do wonder how long they can get away with splitting him out wide and having the defense put their best corner on him just because he's lining up in that spot... seriously, other teams are so dumb. For real tho, any of us who pay attention, know they do this all the time to try and get this match up, yet other teams still fall for it. How does that happen?

That's been something I noticed about Develin and why I thought Kyle Juszczyk would have been a better fit (though not financially.) He actualy seems to be enough of a receiving threat, though, and I think team defenses are already stressed out by trying to defend the run.
They just don't take Blount seriously enough as a receiver, though, to really put extreme stress on defenses when that happens, though, which is why Lewis (and Burkhead) would help out in causing even more chaos on defenses with Develin in there.
With Develin and Blount, you've essentially telegraphed a run. With Burkhead in there, who knows? You can run the ball with a 2 TE/Develin offense -and- pass out of it, as Burkhead is a decent enough receiver. Ditto Lewis.
I'm really looking forward to that offense.

They ran a lot of play action with those two in the game together so it wasn't necessarily a telegraphed run but it did allow teams to go bigger without as much of a mismatch. Fortunately, guys like Edelman were quick enough to get open and Hogan was fast enough to make them pay if the safeties cheated.

Dion Jordan anyone? He was just released by the Dolphins. For the right price... like we can just cut you in camp price.

It is impressive to watch this guys highlight film and see his speed in action and then realize he has only been in the league for three years. Only 3 years and there are so many plays with him just running away from Db's already. It is fun to watch, kind of like the highlight film for Bo Jackson. I mean it when I say it is going to take some work for Tom to not under throw this guy, just throw it out there and let him fly to it. Should be fun!

Just read some stuff about him that makes me think he has a lot of work to do before he will have any value. So yes if he wants to rebuild his NFL career in NE it should be with a contract that is easy to dump quickly.

I would bring in Dion Jordan, but I wouldn't give him more than $10,000 guaranteed. At that price there is no downside. I still wouldn't expect him to last long, he's a mess off the field and can't stay healthy.

I guess I wasn't totally off base when I suggested the idea of the Pats and AP.

Yes it can. If you get AP you don't have room to keep a good rookie, unless they plan on keeping 5 RBs. Have they ever done that? I always remember them keeping just 4.
I wouldn't mind AP besides not having room for a good rookie. We need some young runners as only Foster is signed after next year. Nevermind this is a great RB class.

I think he could have 1 more dynamic season in him. He might be getting old but not playing 2 of the last 3 years kept him from wear and tear. Imagine the Pats having a top 5 back to go along with all the other weapons? Unfair!

The Patriots could work him out now but wait until after the draft to decide whether or not to sign him. Foster is also not a lock to make the roster, and going into training camp with too many players is always better than going into camp with too few players.

I still don't believe the Patriots would sign Peterson. There is some speculation that they leaked the meeting to put some pressure on Blount. Beyond the child abuse stuff, he's not a very good fit for this team. He's bad in pass protection, which the Patriots put a lot of stock in. He's not a receiving threat, which isn't as much of an issue but it's still not ideal. He runs mostly out of sets with the QB under center and while the Patriots run those formations they also like the Shot gun a lot.
Oh yea, and not to beat a dead horse with a switch, but the Krafts have spoken out heavily against players with domestic violence pasts and have gone so far as to say they don't deserve a spot in the NFL, so do we really think they want to answer questions about why that's different than child abuse? Especially for a 32 year old running back coming off of his 3rd major knee injury and bad production in the limited action last season?

To be fair, a lot of Peterson's weaknesses are also Blount's weaknesses. Blount similarly is not very good at pass protection, pass catching, shotgun runs or versatility generally. If the price is right, the Patriots will sign and find use for a one-dimensional running back.
Can't comment on the off-the-field stuff, but you'd think that if that was a hard and fast rule, they never would have brought him in for a workout in the first place.

For me it all comes down to how many RBs are they going to keep. Right now you have White, Lewis and Burkhead. So you have room for one more guy. If you draft a good RB he won't make it to practice squad like a Foster did and most likely will again. If you're will to keep 5 guys than resign a Blount or get AP. As to which one that's a toss up, they both have pros and cons. You know what you get with Blount, but AP could be a beast and really give you something we haven't had in a long time.
We just better draft a young long-term replacement at RB.

Don't be surprised if they draft 2 running backs like they did the year they took Ridley and Vereen.... I do hope James White is a long term Patriot it's just unlikely to be he case.

The Patriots have done really well drafting guys in the 3rd and 4th rounds of the draft in recent years. I was talking a look at some things and one name that was brought up as a potential target of theirs was DeMarcus Walker so I did a little more digging and he seems like a perfect 3rd rd pick for them.
He was productive in college and a 4 year player so he had experience. He had 16 sacks last year. As noted by Pats pulpit, they seem to go after players who have been productive in college during these rounds, whereas in the second they roll the dice more on upside guys. His measurable's are not off the charts (hence him being available in the 3rd rd), but he does remind me of Trey Flowers a little. I'm no expert on arm length and hand size but I do believe the Patriots like guys with big hands as they put a lot of emphasis on technique and bigger hands let u grip better and use leverage. I thought they liked longer arms too but Thuney has really short arms and while I know he's an offensive lineman he's still on the line.
Anyways, Walkers 40 is right in line - maybe slightly better than Flowers. His hands are bigger 10.5 vs 10 but his arms are shorter 33 vs 34.25.... walker is taller and heavier 6'4 & 280 whereas Flowers was 6'2 & 266...
Walker is a guy who projects to be able to rush the passer both inside and out and he's big enough to set the edge versus the run. I could see him being a Patriot draft target. When looking for these guys - trying to find guy's that were highly productive but their "measurable" aren't off he charts seems to be the best way to try and figure out who may be a target.
