Odd situation playing out with Drew Rasmussen (Rays supp-1st rounder): ...and Callis since added that the player also has an option to return to ORE ST as a red shirt Junior. Interesting.

Interesting that the Rasmussen stuff broke today. KJ Harrison signed today. I wonder if there was some kind of hold up on the OSU guys? Weird.

On Rasmussen, here's Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs ( link):

That should leave about $195K for Perry, which sounds about right.

If Perry does end up signing, that means at some point we need to get him, Scherff, Beau Hanna, and possibly even Schellenger and Thompson onto the GCL roster. Injuries and other moves are obviously a huge possibility, but is there anyone looking at an early promotion to Lowell?

I believe Perry is also out for the rest of this season. Thompson would most likely go to Lowell.

Also expecting the Durden and Dearden signings today too....although I doubt either is for over 125k.

So the deadline is in 35 minutes, but we could possibly hear about signings for how many more weeks/months? /sarc
Not that there is much left to wonder about...

Per the release, Thompson to Lowell, the other four to the GCL.
We currently have the Lowell roster at 30 and the GCL roster at 34. That includes Thompson in Lowell based on how the Red Sox release was worded. 8 draftees, all in or headed to Fort Myers, aren't active yet. This includes Sterry, who we know to be rehabbing an injury (again, per Red Sox release), and Perry, who may or may not be rehabbing and inactive.
The GCL roster includes McLean, who's down there rehabbing an injury, so he can probably be deactivated or something. There otherwise will be some movement to get guys on the roster, but I wouldn't expect it to be exciting.

Very nice. No surprises today, which is a good thing because those are the guys we expected to sign. Not to repeat myself from earlier, but that caps what I consider to be a great draft haul. 34(?) players signed including the 2 UDFAs. That includes 13 HS/JC players which is the most since I've been following closely and the most since the most recent CBA changes. I like it.

Maybe this has been discussed before - or possibly tried by some major league teams. What's to prevent Boston from getting around the pool's constraints by offering a player (like Thompson, who had a tough choice to make by signing under slot) whatever money the teams could in order to fit under the cap, BUT *wink, wink*, telling the player he'll more than make up any difference in year two/three, assuming he's healthy... and regardless of how he performs? If Boston could get away with that end around, it would be more like in years past where they could toss extra money at tough signs.
