That AFC championship game effin' sucked. Time to move on. Pats signed 22 y/o DL Armond Armstead from the CFL. Interesting quote:

Great move. The Patriots need an interior lineman who can rush the passer and Armstead seems like a solid candidate. He's quick and has some decent moves but is raw. Here is some tape:

Love the signing. Not sure we can expect a Cameron Wake type impact but with limited draft picks (though I'm guessing they'll "create" more) it's a good investment.
Once again, we need DBs (CBs AND Ss). Chung is gone for sure. I wonder if Gregory is as well. He's not a Free Agent and, while I won't pick on him like others will surely do, I just think we need a thumper back there. And since he doesn't offer anything in special teams, I don't see a roster spot for him.
WR's are another area to address though I hope they just re-sign what they have (Welker, Edelman and even Branch for depth/leadership).
Actually think Vollmer and Talib are the 2 biggest signings and could see one of THEM (not Welker) get the tag.

From ESPN BostonGranted this is the GM of his former team trying to talk him up, but the whole point of this message board is to dream on prospects so there ya go.

Hopefully they pull of a move like they did last year when they got Jones and Hightower.
I'm thinking of a CB/DB and a WR who can make plays. Brady is getting up in age and accuracy is starting go a little bit so he needs help.

Don't see it happening this year.

ESPN Boston had a good writeup pointing out 3 players already in the Pats organization who could provide reinforcements for next year ( Link). Specifically, they are Jeff Demps, Jake Ballard, and Armond Armstead. I just wanted to add Ras-I Dowling to this list. I know Dowling has been a bust so far after 2 years and the current regime has had their misses drafting DB's in recent years (Butler, Wheatley, Wilhite, Chung). BUT if Dowling can get motivated by his lackluster professional career thus far and also keep himself healthy he could be a shot in the arm for the Pat's defensive backfield. As the 33rd overall pick in 2011, the talent is definitely there.

Dane Fletcher signed (presumably for a one year deal) - he announced via his Twitter
Could play a role again on ST and it looks like they were hoping he'd play opposite Mayo in the Sub package (the cover LB we need??). He's more of a role player but I'm still glad he's back.

Fletcher allows Ninkovich more reps opposite Jones which allows Pats to create more pressure on a more consistent basis. Can't wait to see what the Pats do in the draft. It'll be interesting to see how they'll try and manufacture more picks as they do every year. They gotta go either playmaking receiver or the best DB they can grab.

He wasn't playing much 4-3 LB/3-4 MLB this season, was he? The fact that he is a better cover linebacker than what we have. Spikes can't cover. Hightower is still developing cover skills. Of course Dane's not better than Mayo, but wouldn't be bad to use in the 3-4 on passing downs. Wouldn't you prefer to have Rob getting most of his reps on Dline or outside rush? Fletcher's biggest role is on special teams but still provides flexibility on D.

Ninkovich played maybe a couple dozen coverage snaps in 2012, and most were on zone blitzes/exchanges or screen passes and the like. Fletcher can hopefully win snaps in the nickel/dime defense, but it won't come at the expense of Ninkovich-- it'll be in place of Spikes and Hightower.

Is Charles Woodson a good fit for the Pats' safety rotation? It'd be 2 free-type safeties roaming around in the backfield with him and McCourty.

I know he has a less than stellar make-up question marks but It wouldn't be a bad move making a play on Tyrann Mathieu. Play making ability, kick and punt return ability he could fit in.

Looks like we're gonna need 3 CBs now. Talib and Arrington are FAs and it's now being reported that Dennard was found guilty on 2 of the 3 charges (including the felony Assault on a Police Office which is gonna lead to jail time).

SI.com reports that it should save the Pats roughly $8M on this year's cap (reduction from $22M hit to $13.8M).

Welker officially signs with Denver on a two-year deal.
Losing Welker to the Broncos sucks bad enough, but it doesn't even look like it's going to be a cap burden. This is going to come back and bite the Patriots in the ass.

Two years, $12m.
There's no reason the Patriots shouldn't have matched that.

WOW probably pride on Bill's part had something to do with it. They better get Jennings or Tavon Austin.

WOW probably pride on Bill's part had something to do with it. They better get Jennings or Tavon Austin. I disagree. I think this all goes back to what we saw at the beginning of the season. NE was phasing Welker out. Thanks to injuries, it didn't work out but, as we now see, Bill is maintaining his course. The key is what can be done with the savings. Gotta get Talib or another top CB back (with an additional slot guy still needed). Love to see Vollmer (but a healthy one, which is a ?) back. Not sure there are any X-WRs that the Pats are in on so they may come from the draft. I'm sure this is all part of a master plan (hopefully, they get to execute it before other pieces are taken away).
