Name we've definitely mentioned here on the board this offseason, Aaron Dobson (WR - Marshall) is the Patriots' pick at 59.

Nice size-speed combo with great hands and the ability to beat press coverage. He didn't have good QB play in college, so don't worry about the mediocre statistical production. Not the most precise route-runner and didn't play in a pro-style offense or run a full route tree in college, but he's got good upside and is more polished than you'd think (more than Terrence Williams, for example).

Pats took Logan Ryan (CB - Rutgers) at 83

Great fit for the system as a zone corner-- excellent in run support and terrific agility. Mediocre straight-line speed and unimpressive ball skills, but physical and fluid in coverage (enough to succeed in man schemes too). He'll fit in great backing up Talib and Dennard in year one, with the potential to develop into a solid starter. High-end projection would be what we'd hoped McCourty would be at CB with a few fewer picks: aggressive in run support, good in coverage, but not a true shutdown corner and one who probably needs safety help on the back end.

Pats take Duron Harmon (S - Rutgers) at 91

Eh, would have preferred Quinton Patton or Jesse Williams or Brian Schwenke. Think we could have gotten Harmon in round 4 if Belichick really wanted him.

So the Pats have Rutger's defensive backfield now. Reiss said scout's inc graded out Harmon as the 26th overall safety this year... I guess Volmer was in the same boat and worked out well so we'll see. Hopefully the Tavon Wilsons and Duron Harmons end up working out. In any case it seems like the Pats built depth at two key areas of need today - WR and pass defense.

There's good info on Jamie Collins (#52 pick) on CBS Boston:

Good they found the deep threat I was looking for, a pass rusher and DB fodder. The last two picks were meh but I don't know much about the NFL so I don't care.

I don't understand the Harmon pick as he likely would have been available in the 7th round. They could have grabbed Stedman Bailey, WVU WR, which would have given them some protection if Dobson fails to produce or Amendola gets hurt. Bailey had 25 tds last year. I don't get BB's fascination with Rutgers guys, particularly given that the majority of them have flopped in the NFL, with the exception of Ray Rice. Here's hoping the hoodie has filled his quota of Scarlet Knights and drafts a WR, DL or OL in the next few picks. here are Kiper's best available on Day 3. insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/9214912/2013-nfl-draft-matt-barkley-leads-top-10-best-players-available-day-3

Eh, that's true with pretty much every wide receiver. Maybe a half-dozen programs run a pro-style offense in any given year, and even in most of those, players don't have to independently make adjustments at the line of scrimmage like they do in many NFL offenses. One good sign: Belichick raved about his football intelligence:

Pats take Josh Boyce (TCU - WR) at 102.
Boyce ran an unofficial 4.38 40 at the Combine with a broken pinkie toe. Tough kid with vertical speed whose production was limited by terrible QB play.

I figured I'll mention this while we're in limbo waiting for the Patriots next 3 selections in the 7th round, I love what the 49ers have done in this draft so far. They've been building depth at positions of need while getting value and upside exceeding draft position on each pick across the board. It's tough to grade drafts on paper but I think it's safe to say they look like one of this weekend's winners.

I agree they got a guy I really liked in Tank Carradine a pass rusher plus added some depth at other positions. They really look like a solid organization right now.

So apparently the Pats traded ATH Jeff Demps and a 7th round pick for RB Legarrette Blount.

So apparently the Pats traded ATH Jeff Demps and a 7th round pick for RB Legarrette Blount. Weird. Pats backfield is already fairly crowded with Ridley, Vereen, Bolden and Washington. I wonder if this puts Bolden on the bubble.

Two receivers to keep an eye on for the later rounds-- Josh Boyce and Chris Harper. If you're not going to brag about it, I'll do it for you.
