Can't speak for Harris, but Sam looked good. He played in the second unit in the 3rd quarter, so it's hard to tell how his talent plays up against first team players. He only played in the second half and had 7 tackles? Looking at the box score it looks like the Eagles played the starters for like two series or a quarter. Yeah I think I only saw him in the second half. I could be wrong.

Sam didn’t jump out as anything special to me but I didn’t watch the entire second half. I think he had a pick but it was on a play where he was behind in coverage and the receiver missed the ball and it hit his face mask and bounced backwards into Sams hands. He doesn’t seem nearly as fast and fluid as Bentley. Interesting because all reports were that Sam looked much better in pass coverage during practice than Bentley. Also reports say that Burkhead wasn't able to run by Sam in practice. Which makes sense given scouting reports and the fact that Sam used to be a defensive back. I just watched that interception and I don't fault Sam for being behind. He was the middle LB on that play and got picked by there TE. Heck it was impressive he got over there and made the play. No LB on the team wasn't going to be behind on that play, given the defensive they were in. Just the wrong defensive for that play. Heck if anything the LB that took the TE should have broke off and took the RB, and let Sam take the TE. The outside LB is responsible for the outside, yet he went inside with the TE. Should have bumped him and went after RB. In coverage Bentley was 3-5 for 44 yards, Sam was 5-7 for 22 yards. So Bentley was giving up some big plays, over 14 yards a catch, Sam was a little over 4 yards a catch. Those numbers seem to back up the reports I've been seeing that Sam is better in Coverage. Anyway I want both on the team, they are different players, Bentley is a Mike and Sam is a Will LB

I was just painting the picture on how the interception took place.

Keionta Davis has been a nice revelation. I have to admit, I was pretty ignorant on him, but he’s an exciting prospect. Was only undrafted because of an injury issue last year. Was supposed to be picked in top 3 rounds last year, early in the draft process. He’s healthy now and has looked very good. The defensive ends could go from being weak to a strength really quick.

If Bryant doesn't want to play for the Browns, he's about out of luck in finding a team unless he'll take a lot less money on a prove-it deal.

www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000950164/article/patriots-cut-kenny-britt-not-interested-in-dez-bryantThat is about the same as every report I see on Bryant to Patriots probably not. Also says they might bring back Matthews when he is healthy, which makes a ton of sense. He's a perfect fit in our offense. At this point sure I'd offer Bryant a one year minimum deal with incentives, but he really needed a full training camp with Brady. At this point it could take half a season to get him up to speed. There isn't a better fit frankly, we need WRs and have a great QB. Brady could make him look great if he worked hard, put the team first and ditched is attitude. He might drive Brady crazy, but frankly he can do things no WR we have can. Just him on the field will make us better.

Somebody had posted a picture of Bryant at Logan Airport yesterday. Looks like he was renting a car.

What are the chances the Pats have the next Welker/ Edelman in Dorsett? He is a better athlete, can he connect with Tom in that slot role?
Brady has the ability to make guys great if they can think the game the same way.
Said it before and saying it again, Holister is going to get his chance to be Hernandez as an Hback.

I think its very low that Dorsett is anything like Edelman or Welker. He's going to get a huge chance and he is a great athlete, but guys like that usually shine well before there 4 season. Edelman took longer because he was converting from being a QB and was playing with a crazy group of talented WRs. McCarron might be a better pick to be the next great Patriots slot WR.
The WRs look like crap as a whole. We really needed Decker to step up, but he looks like he's done. Patterson looks like the crap WR he's been his whole career. Hogan and Dorsett will most likely be starters, but who the heck is the number 3,4, and 5 WRs?
Heck the whole offense looks like crap. Without our rookie RB we don't have a big play guy at the position either. Even our TEs look like crap this year. So glad we passed on a guy like Josh Adams late in the draft.

I want to keep track of this post with the hopes that it turns out to be very very inaccurate, if it doesn't the Pats could be in for a long year. Is there anything you do like about this team?

www.nbcsports.com/boston/video/phil-perry-patriots-wr-situation-ugly-we-thoughtJust so you know I'm not the only one, its basically a given our WRs are crap. Another report saying this might be the weakest group in Tom Brady's career which is really saying something. McCarron who looks to be #3 on the depth charts for the first four games drops two passes and is crazy unproven. I like him, called him my dark horse to make the team forever again, but as the 5th or 6th guy. Last guy on the roster type thing, not a guy who will badically be a starter for the first four games. What do I like? Sonny Michel is a guy that can change everything. Heck maybe the best RB we've had since Curtis Martin and Corey Dillon. Just can he stay healthy? Without him its a different offense. I think Holister could be productive, he might have to act like a WR. I like the OL, heck I like the DL if we can stay healthy. CB might be the deepest position on the team. 2-3 players that don't make our team will be on another teams roster. Heck we should keep an extra CB over a 4th safety. I really like our two rookie LBers. I'm cringing right now thinking how many good young players we'll lose because Bill wants to keep old favorites for special teams. Example WR is most likely the weakest position on the team, but were going to most likely keep Patterson and Slatter two specialists. Why in the world is Bolden still on this team? The NFL is doing everything in its power to basically take away kickoffs, yet Bill seems to be investing even more into special teams than in years past. A guy like Crossen should be replacing a guy like Slatter. Bolden shouldn't have been brought back and they should have went after a young guy like Josh Adams. Depth which has been our bread and butter for years doesn't look great this year in positions that are very hard to fill during the season. Though I do have to admit our two young DE's have looked rather good, if we can keep one of Davis or Harris on the team or the practice squad. I also love the idea of bringing back Mathews, the guy is the perfect fit for our offense. I'd also expect they either trade or claim another WR on final cut down day. Some people have been saying last years preseason standout Austin Carr could be brought back. Which makes sense, he knows the offense.

If they just keep what they have at WR, they have a real problem. Sometime between now and Saturday, they will make a trade. I think BB realizes he has to do something, just to stretch the field. Someone suggested that they might trade Malcom Brown to the Lions for Golden Tate. I would take that. I'm just saying they have to do something at WR.
Both number 1 draft choices could be on IR for the season. Wonderful.

Where are you hearing Michel might miss the year?
Tate would be awesome, I just don't see the Lions trading him. A team that wants to win now most likely won't get rid of there number 1 WR and replace him with rookies.
I'll throw another name into the maybe you should trade him pot, Eric Rowe. CB looks to be crazy deep and I'd rather get value for a guy we won't resign and has the highest trade value.
I get trading Brown, but if you felt that way why didn't they add a long-term piece? He's been rather disappointing but I always had hope he could develop. We need an interior pass rusher at DT because Guy has been crap for us.

www.espn.com/blog/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4814534/new-england-patriots-53-man-roster-projection-final-cuts-2018I really hope that isn't the roster! Obviously they won't only have 3 WRs. I have no idea why Allen is still on this team. Almost a given Izzo makes the practice squad giving you a blocking TE if you need one. I really like Valentine and would keep him over Brown. Shelton and Valentine would make it almost impossible to run on us. I have no clue why you keep Roberts and Grigsby. The way the NFL is and the way we use them, no need to have Bentley and Roberts. Grigsby is only a special teams player and adds zero to the D. I'd take Sam over Roberts, and why not Flowers or Grigsby? Flowers is a core special teams player, but can help the D if need be. Safeties, why in the world is Jordan Richards still on the team? Come on because he's the top punt protector? No way no how he should be on this team. I do love keeping two young CBs, still cutting two decent ones in McCourty and Lewis. Both might be claimed, maybe Lewis makes the practice squad. I see no way that Sam doesn't get claimed, he's been very productive in the preseason. At the sametime I don't see how Grigsby gets claimed. If you are going to keep Slatter, Ebner, and King as core special teams player. There is no need to also keep Grisby and Richards for Special teams. Add in the kicker, punter, long snapper, and Patterson. That is 9 out of 53 spots reserved for special teams and only Patterson will provide any value outside special teams. I've loved Slatter, but this sure seems like the year to move on. He's just not the player he once was.

I think there’s a good chance they only keep 3 WRs. Why keep guys who can make the practice squad? That’s what they are left with after the top 3. They have backs who can split wide and Hollister is basically a receiver. It’s no where near ideal but I’d rather them do that and keep the depth at corner than keep a crappy wide out like McCarron who can be on the practice squad.

I don't disagree about the current group, but they will claim and/or trade for a WR or two. No way they go into the first game with only 3 WRs, especially when Patterson isn't even really a WR.

Peterson has been a lot better at WR than I expected but I had low expectation. I won’t so no way because it’s the Patriots and they don’t do things like anyone else. I won’t be surprised if there is a trade but there’s a reason it’s almost unheard of for a WR to join a team late offseason or during a year and make an impact. Brandon Lloyd did going from Denver to St Louis but he had McDaniels in both places. I don’t know on example where it’s worked. Maybe it exists.

Brandon Lloyd did going from Denver to St Louis but he had McDaniels in both places. I don’t know on example where it’s worked. Maybe it exists. Well its a number games. The Patriots ran an offense that used 3 or more WRs like 55% of the time last year. You can't only have 3 WRs. They will have more than 3 WRs on the 53 for the first game, that is like 100% take it to the bank type stuff. Heck given the lack of high quality guys you can make a good case they should carry 5 guys. Its why I think McCarron has a great shot at making the team. If for no other reason than a body. You make a great point, but they just need bodies for the first four weeks and depth for the rest of the season. The one positive is the Patriots coaching tree is big. So guys that were coached by McDaniels, Weiss, and O'Brien will have at least a basic understanding of the offense. Like when they brought in Michael Floyd, heck he could be a target. Golden Tate while it seems crazy, also played at Notre Dame in that offense. McCarron came from the Texans coached by O'Brien. That is why a guy like Austin Carr makes a ton of sense. Or maybe they think long-term and just get the best guy available, thinking by the time games really matter he can pick up the offense. It will be hard, but a ton of WRs have been able to connect with Brady in one offseason. Think Welker and Moss. Best case lets hope Matthews gets healthy and can return. I can't think of a bigger addition than him. He just fits the offense like a glove. Why has he been a lot better than you expected? I might have been a little harsh on him, because I hated that trade. He's perfectly fine if he's your 4th or 5th WR. Heck I'd expect a bunch of trick plays to take advantage of his skills. Your just in trouble if he's your #3 WR, one injury away from being your #2 guy. He is going to drive Brady nuts if he has to play a big role and run a bunch of different routes.
