If we get this version of Chris Sale in October, they can beat anyone. Keeping him fresh all year while winning the division will be a daunting and interesting task the Sox will face all year.

Looking forward to seeing JD's opposite field power in Yankee Stadium. Severino is already having nightmares in his sleep thinking about it.

Yankees win on a walk off homerun by Torres. I'm convinced that the only team that might be able to beat the Yankees at this point is the Sox. They’ve also had the benefit of relatively good teams really rolling by over. The Twins aren’t remotely as bad as they showed, Houston’s been struggling, and Cleveland looks very, very mediocre. But that shouldn’t take away from NY either...they’re doing everything right right now. One of the big things with the MFYs is that they have strong 1-9 lineup. The Astros and Indians bullpens (would have helped if Andrew Miller wasn't out) couldn't hold them down late in the games that the Astros and Indians should have won.

Fwiw, Sale’s velo is way down this year. He’s obviously struggled with mechanics some, and hasn’t really looked like himself. But he’s been outstanding today and I can only hope that he’s ramping up from a light ST and/or situationally pitching to contact. Either way, yeah, let’s hope this leads to him having more gas after the ASB and into November.

Yeah, you can almost bet the house that the Astros and Yankees are getting a good bullpen arm or two each between both teams. I don't know how either the Indians or Astros feel comfortable with either of their bullpens.

Looking forward to seeing JD's opposite field power in Yankee Stadium. I hope he gets something to take to right field. He can just flip those pitches over the RF fence in Yankee Stadium.

Cora kind of mentioned/implied that Sale was sick of hearing questions about his velocity so he decided to shut people up today. He always had it, but he chose not to use it. He's pacing himself this season.

Surprised Sale is still even in the game right now. I would have pulled him. No need for him to be there in a 6-0 game.

I'd have someone up in the bullpen in case Sale allows a baserunner.

There’s some benefit to getting a pitch count into the 100s without going past 110 or so. He’s dealing and I think it’s a good idea to rest the ‘pen a bit. I think ideally he finishes 7 and they can get 2 from Johnson, who I wouldn’t trust in relief against NY.

I really hope JBJ figures it out before the media starts their crap on getting on him soon.

Lol, yup, that’s a nice little bit of hustle-bustle. He’s averaged 92.4 this year prior to today, versus 94.4 last year. He had a similar but less pronounced drop in Chicago during his “pitch to contact” experiment. Based on what Jimed says, you’re probably right that *was* may be the appropriate tense. Def reassuring that at the least he’s got it in the tank, and that he can still baffle hitters without sitting near his max. Save some for the playoffs. I’m sure the cruddy mud season weather didn’t help, but it’s chilly in Oct/Nov too.

is this Mookie issue serious? Want him on the field for the next series. They way Cora goes about it, he may miss a game or 2 It seems like no but he did land funny and apparently had some numbness or discomfort in his hand. Hopefully it’s a 1-2 day thing as you say. . While I am hoping Mookie’s injury is not serious (Cora called it a “contusion”) it looked to me like maybe there was some nerve involvement. The hit in the back and then pain or whatever in the wrist and arm. Hopefully a few days rest will help.

JDM will think he's hitting chip shots. Andrew will go for it bigtime I think. Mitch! Devers is more of a rcf swing.
It wouldn't surprise me if Hanley turns around a bit too for tyhe short porch. The only guy who won't try and will hit to lcf is Betts!
Good trip so far for a team that was playing .500 ball.

Matt Barnes really has been unhittable this year. I hope he can throw more strikes in the future.

Nice to see the overpowering Chris Sale. Haven't seen this version since the night he got his 300th K against the Orioles. Hope to see this version in October.

Matt Barnes really has been unhittable this year. I hope he can throw more strikes in the future. Apparently FG has him throwing a splitter this year, which may just be a reclassification of his hard CH (which has some late downward bite). Or maybe he’s adjusted his grip. Idk, he doesn’t throw it that often. But there’s a pretty regular, steady progression along his development path to this point. I posted about it pre-season (along with Hembree), but there’s a reasonable amount of data to suggest that this is evolution and not just SSS luck.
