Not that it takes away from the larger point but I LOATHE assists as a stat. I remember when Stockton broke the assist record. He handed the ball to Malone who took 20 seconds (that might not be an accurate number) to back his player down before scoring. JS got the assist. Really? BC you were the last person to touch the ball before KM scored?
And I loved me some John Stockton but that was absurd.

Rondo, used to screw up the offense just to hunt for assists so they definitely aren’t the end all and be all but they certainly aren’t a useless stat. Not by a long shot... i do understand where you’re coming from tho.

Nice game tonight - they weathered a few minor storms - some killer +/- (Smart, Baynes) and Irving and Horford shone. Hope they keep it going! No talk of inter-team issues when they win.....

You can't play basketball much better than Kyrie Irving did in the past 2 games.

Draft pick update, the Grizz now have the 6th worst record and are in free fall. Given the pick and its restrictions that isn't a horrible thing. Kings are 13th, Clippers 14th, Celtics have 7th best record. So right now without lottery luck we'd have two picks 13th and 23rd. I really hope the Clippers make a trade and get back into the playoffs. Given we just passed the halfway point of the season any hopes of a high Kings pick is long gone unless we get crazy lucky. Remember that debate over getting the Lakers pick or the Kings pick and how I thought Danny might be getting too greedy? Right now its pick 10 vs 13. We'll have to wait till the draft so we can measure the strength, but its not likely we get a higher pick.
So two negatives with the Clippers and Kings. While I think pushing the Grizz pick as that roster ages and the protections go down could be a positive thing.
I will say I'm surprised 5 of the 7 top teams are in the East and the Celtics have the third best point differential in the league behind the Bucks and Warriors.
Tonight will be a big game. Our issues have been crappy teams. We have lost a ton of games to teams we shouldn't have. I don't even think its home vs road. It's we just overlook crappy teams. We're healthy and playing well, we should blow the Hawks out. I want to see this team beat them by 20.

Marcus Morris is back! I mean, the (probably) real Marcus Morris. Great win other than that.

You hoping to get the Clippers pick in this draft so that the Celtics might trade up or something?
Another close win to a bad team. At least they won.

Another close win to a bad team. At least they won. Second night of a back to back and on the road. This was a tough game and while I'm not impressed with their level of play, it's at least somewhat encouraging.

A win is a win is a win...the next big test will be how they respond to their next loss. Team should hopefully be learning from some of their playing (and post game verbal) errors and starting to gel. They can be - should be special....only thing holding them back is themselves. Corner turning, hopefully?

I’m too lazy right now to go back and check this out but i saw somewhere that last year the Celtics played teams that were in the midst of losing streaks an inordinate amount of times, whereas this year they’ve caught teams playing their best basketball an inordinate amount of times. Like earlier in the year when they lost to the Knicks that was during the best stretch of ball the Knicks played this year. Not excusing their losses but sometimes comparing one year to the last or one loss to another isn’t quite that easy... these are all NBA teams and even bad ones usually have a couple good stretches a year.

No its 2019 and 2020. Yet unlike the Grizz pick the protection doesn't change and then it turns into a 2022 second round pick. It's top 14 protected, so in my opinion you want that pick this year. Could very well be your best chance at getting the pick and having it be the highest it could be. Why wouldn't you want it? I guess in a perfect world you get it next year and the Grizz pick in 2021. Yet that is risky and I just hope we get a first.

The Clippers won, so we currently have picks 12, 15, and 23. Given nbadraft.net current mock I'm not moving up. First we can currently get guys like Rameo Langford and Bol Bol at 12 and 15. Heck then target a Tre Jones type guy at 23. Second you don't have close to enough to get Zion Williamson. We'll see how things change as we get closer. Right now it looks like a deep draft. Heck some mocks have Bassey dropping in that range. www.nbadraftroom.com/2017/01/romeo-langford.htmlwww.nbadraftroom.com/2016/03/bol-bol.htmlwww.nbadraftroom.com/p/tre-jones.htmlwww.nbadraftroom.com/2016/12/charles-bassey.html

I could be way wrong here but I’d want Barrett over Zion... love Zion tho and it’s super close and I totally get wanting Zion and it’s hard for me to say I prefer Barrett. Zion is great in so many ways and he’s probably a better person than he is player. That outside shot is really broken tho. Add: I’m with you, they can’t trade up and unless you can get into the top 4 it’s not worth it anyways. Some interesting draft and stash guys seen to be emerging

Thought there was a chance to get into the top 4 with all those picks, but maybe not. Be cool to get some draft lottery luck though.

Stevens is incompetent when it comes to using timeouts. Incompetent.

Good win, but this shouldn’t happen with our depth...

Good win, but this shouldn’t happen with our depth... And they looked even worse than that. This is probably going to sound ridiculous given the talent in that group, but adding a scorer to the bench wouldn't be the worst thing ever especially with Rozier looking like he forgot how to play basketball.

I didn't watch or listen, just watched Gamecast - so this is just based on looking at the box score.
33-17-37-20. All or far less offense...but the good - this is a game that they may have lost control of a week or two ago - so progress?
A win is a win - hopefully they are learning some things as they go so that they can get some more consistency.

Thought there was a chance to get into the top 4 with all those picks, but maybe not. Be cool to get some draft lottery luck though. So much depends on tier rankings. Usually you get tier one and tier two guys in the top four. Pick 12 is usually like tier 4 to 5, maybe in a crazy deep draft tier 3. So in a normal draft almost no chance 12, 15, and 23 gets you into top four. More like pick 7 or 8 and right now that seems like a bad deal. All depends, maybe if some team really liked lower guys. I just wouldn't bet on it, nor do I think Danny would do that.

Right now NBA draft net has Culver at 11... i think that’s pretty low for him but if the Celtics were able to snag him I’d be thrilled.... right now my dream scenario, outside or Sacramento winning the 2nd pick in the lottery would be for Reddish to fall. But getting Langford would be pretty sweet as well. Add DeAndre Hunter to your list too; a guy that can shoot like him always finds a place in the league. Plus, he plays at Virginia and shouldn’t have trouble settling into a role.
