Flat out BAILED by Kyrie. I like umass idea of starting Smart or Rozier alongside Kyrie and rotating Brown, Tatum and Hayward a bit more. If they're on the trade market, I'd really try to find a deal for a big because I'm just about done expecting more than the little things from Horford.

Horford is just a great compliment. I'm hoping for a big in a draft moving forward or Williams turns into anything. It's really the Celtics only hope at getting great production moving forward at the big position.

I knowing going down this road is a fool's errand but I disagree with the "great compliment". I know it's not intended as a rip but I do think it's dismissive of his impact.
"You'll be sorry when he's gone" is not a great analytical statement, I admit. But I DO feel as though the impact of not having Al (unless you can find someone else that does all of the things he does) will trickle down (up?) to the entire team performance.
I forget who said it but there was an industry "expert" who said that the list of players that impact as many facets of game (Defend P&R, Defend Rim, Rebound, Initiate offense, some scoring, etc) as Al is a short one (and includes the likes of Durant, Draymond, Lebron, and players of that ilk). What kills Horford is that he doesn't do any of the "stastical" ones at a league leading level (that last line was my add).

I personally feel that the Celtics would be screwed without Al because they have no one to replace him that's remotely ready at the big position. I won't even call it a center or power forward position anymore. I just call it the big position as Stevens puts it. There is 2 or 3 wings, 1 or 2 guards and a big in mostly in today's game in the NBA. That's your starting 5 mostly every night.
You lose Al, you're replacing him with Baynes and Williams. That's a huge dropoff in talent.
You lose anyone in the wing or guard position, they have in house replacements easily.
It is a no mans land argument though.

In all likelihood it wont be able to come from 1 player (which is Al's value add).
For example, RWill could protect rim and PnR but probably not facilitate. Hayward could facilitate but not likely protect (loose examples using assumptions and, with Williams, projections.
Having 1 player be able to do all those things make the others better.

Rozier looks like ass tonight. Not sure how feasible it was, but maybe we should have sold high.
On the other hand, Tatum looks really great. I love it when he's attacking and with Kyrie out, he's clearly been given the green light.

Smart and Rozier taking quick, low percentage shots. Team not playing with any energy in the 3rd - not playing much D. Kyrie is out but ...ugly so far.

Poor shooting and decision making by Brown is ruining a nice come back.

I'm glad I didn't watch this game. I'm not sure what this team's problem is and how they snap out of this funk. I ask for Rozier to start and then he plays like crap.
Stevens has a lot of mouths to feed and he's in a no win situation right now.

No late game heroics - Tatum missed two layups and Brown just kept shooting them up despite clearly having an off night. They may be talented, but don't always play smart. No Irving hurt them for sure.

Looks like Rozier had a better 2nd half, which I didn't watch. That's encouraging. Everyone is slumping right now, it's been such a weird season.

Rozier needs minutes. Its like he needs to warm up and can't do that crazy well in short stints, yet play him major minutes and he produces.
They scored enough points, was all about bad D. Should have started Baynes, he used to play big minutes against good bigs. These smaller lineups because Hayward is back is killing us. I've seen some glimpses, will hope and pray he just needs time, but he isn't a starting level player right now! Not even close. A fully healthy Hayward would easily offset the loss in D with scoring, but we don't have that Hayward right now. This team has no identity right now.

Kind of a shockingly cheap price for Butler. The East is really looking tougher than anyone expected.

Not sure how this will work out for Philly. Getting the best player usually results in a win but I felt Covington and Saric were perfect compliments to that lineup (well, when you had Redick's shooting in there).

I would just say that we thought Minny had gotten a lot better when they traded FOR Butler.

I would just say that we thought Minny had gotten a lot better when they traded FOR Butler. Well, they went from 31 Wins to 47.

Can't believe that is all they got for him, Butler has improved his shooting this year. More three's and higher percentage which is huge for that team. Scary times for us. Raptors look awesome, Bucks look awesome and now the Sixers.

I would just say that we thought Minny had gotten a lot better when they traded FOR Butler. Didn't they? They went from mid lottery to the playoffs.

Insanely cheap for Butler. Agreed that Celtics now look like more of a 4 seed. Hayward has to see more of the bench until his instincts and comfort are back to normal. And yes, Minnesota was WAY better with Butler. They literally had a 12 point difference in net rating with him on the floor versus without him on the floor , see this page. Philly is scary now. So are the Bucks now that they have a real coach, and the Raptors with one of the best players in the league in Kawhi.

Well you can't have it both ways Pedro. They certainly look like a #4 seed, but I agree they could be a lot better. You can't look at this team right now and think they look good. Nothing looks good across the board. Heck maybe the way Morris has been playing? Tatum, Brown, Rozier, Smart and Horford are all playing worse than during the playoffs. Irving impact seems to be more negative than positive. Yea he's one of the best scorers in the league, but he's bad defensively, doesn't play team ball and wants to play at a very slow pace. Hayward looks like worst case scenario type crap. He looks like a shell of the former player he was. Worst yet our coach doesn't seem to be able to fix it and won't adjust. Look at last night. We got killed on the boards, Rozier lead the team in rebounds with 6. Yet Baynes plays 15 minutes against a team that starts a true center and PF? Baynes should have started and played 30 minutes to set a tone on D and help control the paint and rebound. Nevermind Rozier a pg leading the team in rebounding is crazy. The magic from last years playoff run, the great chemistry, hustle, defense, grit and offensive runs are mostly gone. I can't believe this is the same team frankly. Yet our boy wonder coach keeps starting Hayward. This group has been together for two training camps and well over a season now. Something major needs to happen. Like Hayward turning it around, or a major reduced role. Irving needs to play to the teams strengths not his own. Maybe a trade so players get more minutes.
