Game under protest. Red Sox should bring in a new pitcher, move him to 3B and then back to pitcher and have Devers lead off the next inning. I can imagine the Red Sox protesting, winning this game and then having to replay it after winning their protest.

You can choose to drop a protest

Crap like this is why baseball is a dying sport. Nobody wants to watch through those meaningless delays so that either team can gain a tiny tactical advantage. Yeah but it's kinda funny though. This game has apparently imploded into some sort of logical paradox or rules event horizon. Nothing means anything. We are all but dust in a void.

You can choose to drop a protest I could be wrong, but I thought once you protest it was out of your hands?

Does the league ever do anything ever about any game under protest? It seems that they'd rather get it wrong than to admit they're wrong.
I swear Taylor has gotten 2 strikes on check swings and they haven't shown replays.

Taylor got squeezed on that second pitch.

Does the league ever do anything ever about any game under protest? The umpires upheld the protest in the George Brett pine tar incident! They ended up finishing the game like a month later. I'm sure there are others but that's the most memorable one by far.

Actually I don't know what the protest is about now. The box score is now showing that Adames pinch hit for Kolarek the pitcher.

Duffy was completely fooled on pitch 5 and 7. Taylor fortunate to not give up the walk.

I don't blame Alex Cora one bit for not putting rookies into big spots. I have no problem with Cora leaving out a guy like Taylor out of high leverage situations. Low to medium leverage in the 5-7 innings is a perfect role for a guy like Taylor right now as a rookie. Brasier is going to be in Pawtucket until September because his luck wore off from last year. Cora is generally going to trust the guys who have more experience. This is why he kept going back to Nunez and kept going there until he was gone. Taylor and Darwinzon are going to have to absolutely shove in the roles they are given until they get their chance in bigger opportunities, and they can't mess up like with what Taylor did on July 17th. The only way I can see Darwinzon and Taylor getting into big situations like last night is if there are no other options available. A 3 run lead in the 9th with the bases empty is low leverage. Not in the most important game of the season.

Actually I don't know what the protest is about now. The box score is now showing that Adames pinch hit for Kolarek the pitcher. It was crazy. Lowe is definitely the guy Cash wanted to hit leading off the 8th, even against a lefty (he has a reverse split).
It looked to me that they failed to tell Cora that the replay umps had ruled in his favor and not Cash's!

Looks like there were two more recent. There was a Cubs-Giants protest in 2014 that was upheld. www.retrosheet.org/protests.htm I don't remember that but I was also moving that week.

Red Sox did exactly as needed of them in round 1 of this gauntlet. 4 straight against NY is huge now.

Who was doing color in this series? I've had no cable for the duration.
My X1 box was fried by a lightning strike Monday eve while I was at the movies, and I swapped the box Tue and came home to find a Comcast outage in my area which has now lasted more than 24 hours.
