Well that's what teammates do, have the players back. Nevermind Jay Cutler wasn't known for hard work, yet I'm sure you'll find teammates saying he was Maybe I am wrong, yet I find it hard to believe a crazy hard worker, a student of the game can't at least have a career completion percentage above 60%. My hope is that the Patriots show him what real work is and can make him better. Instead of a dual threat QB, he becomes a passer first and you save the runs for important areas. I haven't seen that yet and it's not because he doesn't have the talent and ability. Where you are getting that Cam has an issue with working hard? His issue has been a bad attitude when things don’t go his way. Now that’s a significant issue, but a very different one than being lazy.

His issue has been a bad attitude when things don’t go his way. Now that’s a significant issue, but a very different one than being lazy. I don't think the guys lazy or doesn't work hard in the general sense of NFL players. I don't think he's a typical Patriots QB and that he likely has never come close to working as hard as our QBs do. With Patriot QBs it's just as much mental as it is Physical. Newton has never taken that step from physical freak to high IQ veteran QB. It's the hardest thing for a QB to do, break bad habits and change the way you play. Learn the little things, like throwing the ball away rather than always trying to make a play with his legs. Transform from a dual threat guy into a pocket passer that can hurt you with his legs. Why is than an issue? The guy has a career completion percentage below 60% That crap is going to be huge for him as a Patriot. While I fully expect them to change some of the offense, it's still likely to be very similar. They aren't going to be running an offense close to what he did for the majority of his career. I'm not saying I don't think Newton can't do it. There's just different levels of hard work for QBs and the Patriots demand the highest level and Stidham sure looks like the typical Patriots QB. Newton's in for a huge battle and I can't wait to see how he responds.

Interesting they went him over Smith Might not be all on Pats choice. He could be seeing the depth in front and waiting for a better opportunity.

New Dad Marquise Lee joining the list of opt outs.
IMO he was on the outside looking in.

I hope the Patriots add a few veterans, like we need some DT and LB depth. No big contracts though, save that money for next year.
JJ Taylor and Jeff Thomas ability to make the roster just increased.

Given my uncertainty that a real season can/will actually take place, I'm leaning towards rolling over most/all of the space to next year.
Reserve the right to change that opinion should my confidence level change.

Pats cap space could increase another $9.2m if the Corona CBA amendment pushes prorated bonuses into 2021. Probably irrelevant as they won’t use that space this year so whether it’s on this years cap or next years is the same.

Michel, Sanu and Brandon King are starting on PUP. It’s interesting because Sanu is clearly not hurt so wonder what the advantage is

One implication is that it could make some of these guys harder to cut next year as their dead money would increase.

It’s really all just a wash right? I mean you either absorb it this year or next and the unused this year just rolls over to next. I think we can all agree they aren’t using this money so it’s a net zero affect. Or am i missing something...

From a total cap # perspective, I agree. But I think it might change that "calculus" for an individual player (how much dead money you're okay with for an individual player).

Texas great information as always.
It basically punts the year right? Like Cannons 2020 numbers carry over to 2021 right?
Cannons dead money next year would be the same as this year right?

Brad Spielberger brought up the Solder example. Prior to this agreement, Solder would have had 6.5M in Dead Money next year. Now, it'll be 13M.
That could possibly impact how the Giants deal with him.

Just looked up Solder... now his dead cap is 6.5 million the year after so everything is just bumped a year back... which isn’t nothing since players age has a lot do with things.

Ok looked it up, it just carrys overs this years numbers. Solders dead money was 13 million in 2020, then 6.5 million in 2021, now it's just pushed back to 2021 and 2022.

So prior to this agreement, Solder was going to cost 6.5 on the cap this year (you can't cut a player who has opted out so dead money isn't really the issue) and you could cut him next year with 6.5 in dead money. Now, to cut him next year, you have to be willing to eat 13M in dead money next year.
From an overall perspective, assuming the Giants roll over that 6.5M to next year, it does wash. But the cost/benefit equation for cutting Solder has now changed.

Could go either way. Might be exactly what Cam needs at this stage of his life/career. He basically was out of football this year and had to wait this year so that can change a man. Also, the thing most people can handle is if they think the coach is treating them differently... or he could be soft emotionally and can’t handle not being codled
