That's quite the group of infielders. I'm actually most interested in the group of pitchers. Lots of interesting low minors guys.

No Perales though, which is a bummer That was really the only one that stood out to me that I couldn't figure out, particularly given the presence of Cruz, who is in the same class and is also yet to debut. Team was not forthcoming with any sort of reason. Seabold was a slight surprise to me, but you can differentiate him, as someone who has been healthy and was in 2020, from Mata, who they probably want to make up some innings from his hamstring issue, and Groome, who just needs all of the innings right now as he plays catch-up. (EDIT: and as I just realized thanks to Twitter, Seabold was at Summer Camp, whereas Mata and Groome were not. That's three weeks of workouts that he had that they didn't. Makes sense to give him the break at this point and work with some younger guys.) Erro catching is somewhat interesting. He's not converting, but simply adding a position as they try to make him more versatile.

Looking at the roster another way, players by (rough) level gives you an interesting look at where the strength of the system is. No surprise that it's in the lower minors.

Don't be surprised if there's a decent amount of movement on the back end of the list based on who got invited to camp.

Seems like the swan song for Danny Diaz and Ryan Fitzgerald. I'm surprised they couldn't come up with an exception for Aybar but, this makes him less likely to be taken in the Rule 5 draft.

Looks like the Sox are playing against other teams in instructs. Brainer Bonaci posted a lineup for their game today against the Rays:
Rosario CF Yorke 2B Decker RF Baldwin 1B Bonaci SS Northcut DH Jordan 3B Marrero C Vaughan LF
Groome SP Bazardo RP Cellucci RP

Except for Baldwin at first.
Seriously, it's interesting that the lineup (excluding the two relievers) is 60% guys who are among the top two available at their positions (Rosario, York, Decker, Bonaci, Jordon, Groome) and 40% guys not in the top 50.

If he was even Brainier, he'd post a box score or a recap or something.

Consider that Baldwin missed all of 2019 too, basically, and he desperately needs at-bats. FWIW, there was also an intrasquad happening during this game.

Stalling of Baldwin is the one which has surprised me. I remember watching him at Ft Myers few years back over a week and a half span and he was just killing it, good effort behind the plate, just hustling all over the field. Understand injuries have played some part in it, but it's like going past rookie to A- level he hit a wall.

All of those reports are interesting, but Lugo's report might be the most informative, since the others guys were more obvious for Callis to ask about. For the infielders, his question may well have been "who has impressed you?" rather than player-specific.

"Instructional league has given the organization its first chance to see right-hander Chih-Jung Liu pitch in a Red Sox uniform, 11 months after signing him out of Chinese Taipei for $750,001."
Is there a story to this? Did they outbid another team by a dollar or something?

I don’t feel like this quote from crocket is getting the attention it deserves “ yet Crockett said that pound for pound, Lugo is probably the strongest prospect in the system.”

Lineups for the instructs intrasquad scrimmage today are below (posted by Brayan Bello). I was surprised at the RF/CF on both teams and think those might get swapped.
G. Jimenez RF Rafaela 2B Esplin CF Cannon SS Decker LF Northcut 3B Howlett DH Belen 1B Marrero C
Groome SP
vs.
Rosario RF Yorke DH Casas 1B Bonanci SS Jordan 3B Flores 2B Rangel C Vaughan LF Chacon CF
Bello SP
