Some more info with a Ben Crockett interview. A lot of small details here: theathletic.com/2223041/2020/11/27/red-sox-state-of-minor-leagues/?source=dailyemailOne guy I was curious about: Durbin Feltman, a college closer who seemed to be on the fast track to Fenway Park before he struggled with command in Double-A in 2019. “Feltman did really good work at home and put himself in a good position physically,” Crockett said.
Most of those six are at least a year away from the big leagues, but Feltman’s strong impression stands out, if only because the last time we saw him, Feltman was pitching to a 5.26 ERA with 31 walks in 51 1/3 innings in Double-A.
“He worked really hard (this summer) both on the strength, conditioning, stability side of things, but also with his delivery work,” Crockett said. “(He’s) trying to get himself in a position where he could repeat a little bit better and be more consistent within the strike zone and with the quality of his stuff. We definitely saw that. He was pretty consistent with it during instructional league, and he was taking that into competition.”

Looks like a lot of the Latin players who were in Fort Myers are now at the Dominican Academy. Jorge Rodriguez, Brainer Bonaci, and Juan Chacon all look like they're there.

Newest scout chatter is up with takes on Gilberto Jimenez, Brainer Bonaci, Eduardo Lopez, Darel Belen, Bryan Gonzalez and Antoni Flores. I'm really curious to see what extent Jimenez can carry a more impactful swing into game situations next year. I'm also kind of excited for Lopez's stateside debut as I think he could be steady in all facets of the game.

The 6-7 mph velocity differential on Ramirez's changeup is actually very good. The least effective differential is the average of 11 mph. Ideally, you're slower than that, but faster than that is also good.
What's happening here is that if a hitter fails to look for a changeup, and fails to pick up any changes in the delivery, and fails to pick up the spin, he's fooled, and it's likely a swing-and-miss. In that case, all velo differentials are equally as good. But more often they're looking for the changeup, or there's some difference in the motion and release that they can pick up unconsciously and/or they can pick up the spin the same way. In those cases, you want some divergence from expected velocity to disrupt the hitter's timing. That's how you get weak groundballs on the change.

Something that just struck me that I can't believe I didn't think about, regarding the number of guys at the DR Academy - these are the guys who used to go play in the Venezuelan development program, or "Liga Paralela" (Parallel League). That stopped last year given the political unrest and financial issues in the country, so it appears the Red Sox are having those guys just work out all winter at the Academy.

Probably more noteworthy to me on that first one is Liu throwing 90 mph and incredibly straight.

Video I saw from Taiwan had him 93-94, T96. Maybe he's not all the way built up - has he been pitching recently?
