Also last year they had 5 guys who COULD play in the middle lb spot... Hightower, KVN, Collins, Roberts and Bentley. This year they have Bentley and who? Copeland (?), Jennings (?)? A lot of those guys were interchangeable too so they could disguise who was where, rush from different spots and drop elsewhere. They can’t do that this year... at least not yet and unlikely they can. It’s a problem... Yes, Chung played in the box some as a SS type linebacker but there’s a difference between using that look and it being your only real option. Copeland and Jennings can both do those things, that's what I don't get with what your saying. Only Bentley can't do those things and they never did those things playing D to stop the pass. They were rushing Phillips when he got beat deep, it's a big reason he got beat. Did we get run on with those guys? If you really want to discuss this you need to answer that question. You also have to say "Mother May I"

For those with the BSJ sub, Bedard does some good film breakdown of the last Sea scoring drive.

I really can’t, I made my first post and simply highlighted the linebackers because it was a 2 sentence paragraph about the defense and to keep they have nothing there right now. In the SECOND post I clarified it was an entire front 7 issue and I wasn’t solely blaming the MIL, but you want to keep coming at a discussion like I’m only blaming it on the linebackers and that’s just an impossible discussion to have.
If you’re right and by week 6 Jennings and Uche are the primary linebackers and are playing well and Bentley barely plays then we may have something. We can circle back then.
Also, Copeland sucks on the inside - just because we can name names doesn’t mean they are effective players.

Not Patriots related but HOLY (word that would get me reprimanded from a board staff member).
Tyrod Taylor missed last week's game bc the Team Doctor punctured his lung while administrating a pain killer.

Also, Copeland sucks on the inside - just because we can name names doesn’t mean they are effective players. It's by design, the front seven will always be gashed by the run, yet isn't that only part of their job? You didn't like the pressure they were able to get? You can certainly debate Bill's choice to play the pass again at the expense of the run for a second straight year. I've certainly done just that. Yet he clearly thinks that's the way to be able to beat the best teams. He had multiple guys he could have signed to play differently and he didn't. So yeah I'm going to trust Bill. It's game two of the season, when they had a crazy short camp and no games to get ready. Yeah I think the fair way to judge a team is what they can be, not just what you currently see. The fact our big off-season DT hasn't played and we've barely seen the three rookie LBs we drafted certainly should be part of the thought process no? It's not just hoping on one guy, yet three of them, who are all much quicker and have bigger upsides than Bentley. Nevermind it's really only one guy because it seems rather clear the goal is to use three safeties a lot of the time, just like we've done for years Copeland is an average type LB, who can play multiple positions and is very good at special teams. He hardly sucks and is perfectly fine in a rotation. I'll give you props for sticking to your 6-10 they suck prediction.

$10M and a 4th round pick for a blocking TE and Brady bud.

Andrews is going to be out, he’s been the best lineman so far, big loss. Here’s the test for Frojholdt

The only positive is we get to see Froholdt. Bedard was raving about him in camp. He was terrible last year in camp and preseason before he got hurt then missed the year. The change was dramatic to the point that Bedard said he was way better than Karras (i know not a very good lineman but still)... IF Froholdt shows he’s a good to very good lineman the it can be big for the future. Allowing them to move on from one of Thuney, Mason or Andrews (expensive or about to be expensive linemen) then it gives them money to spend elsewhere. They currently have a great line but to keep a line great you need to cycle in new young offensive-linemen at least every couple years or it makes it hard to maintain it. Wynn is new but already in year 3 - his cheap years are behind him. They have the cheap Elemuer at RT playing great but he’s a FA after this year and on the Trent Brown - 1 year plan. Onwenu has been getting time at RT every week and done well there in limited action... there may be a long term plan there. It could simply be to make him a back up all along the line or it could be a future RT. In any event, it’s a huge loss because Andrews is so valuable there but there’s a silver lining long term - maybe

It's a good point, I'd just rather it happens later in the season when he's got more time with Newton. I have faith in the player, the timing just sucks.

NE lut Andrews and Uche on IR. Signed Ferentz to 53 (permanently, not just a temporary promotion) from the PS.
He may go at C instead of Froholdt.

Hopefully it's just a case of a backup plan in case Frojholdt really struggles.

$10M and a 4th round pick for a blocking TE and Brady bud. We could actually really use a blocking TE right about now. It was also actually more like a 5th because it was a compensatory pick. But if this is more of a rebuilding year, which I believe it is, and cap room rolls over, it doesn't make sense for us. Perhaps it makes sense for Tampa.

Wynn was dinged up in practice a few days ago, let's hope it's just something minor.
I didn't see Onwenu at RT, just LG. Yet he was impressive. Herron was also impressive because you didn't notice him and that's a great thing for a low round rookie playing LT.
Taylor adds a weapon.
I haven't seen Michel look that good since his rookie year. Like that's the guy we drafted.
Good game against a good team.

I think our blocking from TEs has been great, what we can use is a pass catching TE.

Good to see a motivated Michel running hard.
On the other hand, I've seen enough of Nick Folk. I have no idea who is out there, but I hope they bring some new kickers in for try outs.

I like where our team is going but it's not hard to see why Brady left. The tight ends, receivers and kicking game are well below average. Our offensive and defensive lines as well as the LBs are average. The coaching, secondary and punting/kickoff teams are really the only elite things about this team.
