That’s still a lot of cap space... lot of speculation that Brown contract includes a lot of NLTE incentives so they actual cap number may be around 6 or 7.

Yes, they're looking much better, but you still need a QB to run the show. BB seems to have more faith in Cam than the rest of the world. Maybe he'll be okay for 2021, but not beyond. So, I'm thinking he moves up in the draft to get the QB of the future. It’s more possible today than it was a couple days ago that they decide to make a major trade up the board for a QB.

That's what I think they're going to do, too. I was thinking they might go after DeShaun Watson, but I think he's going to have off-field issues to deal with, so Belichick might use his remaining money to get another RB and/or a wide receiver as I still think they need to get a #1 or at least a #2 receiver in addition to Algohor and Bourne. I'm guessing they will trade Gilmore and use some of those draft picks to trade up to draft a QB like Lance or Fields.

I go back and forth on Gilmore. On the one hand, it makes sense to trade Gilmore and create more space in lieu of paying him top dollar.
But then I start to wonder if NE would make all of these moves to improve and then take away their #1 CB (when, last year anyway, JC wasn't quite ready to take over).

Karras to NE per Howe. But Butler is going to Miami.
EDIT - Not suprisingly, reports are that Andrews will not be returning either. Karras is the starter.

A bunch of these contracts look better when you see the real numbers. That being said almost everyone balloons next year. I know the cap will spike, yet it's not going to be 250 million either. So I'd start to focus on value signings that don't balloon.
Let's not forget Marqise Lee who opted out because of Covid is still on a cheap one year deal. Given his injury history a year of rest could be great for him. He's a good player to battle in camp to make the roster.
Not sure I see another receiver as a need unless Edelman is done. I want room to maybe add a rookie and that could be hard right now.
I look at Gilmore differently now that you've in a way gone all in. It's tough because you already spent a ton of money next year and you have to pay Jackson. He could be the key to trading up for a QB if you want to. Yet his value playing out next year is much greater now also.
I'm still looking at Van Noy for his ability to play multiple positions.

JC Jackson only given the 2nd Rd Tender (per RapSheet). Bit of a surprise there.

Yeah, I guess with 1st rd he'd likely get 0 offers. But with a 2nd rd tender, he'll get offers that will set the market for an extension (without NE out-bidding themselves).

Butler to Miami on 2 year deal... that’s too bad

You have to keep JC Jackson long-term. People talk about him getting picked on last year with Gilmore out, yet he had a higher PFF grade. No CBs look good without a pass rush. I don't have an issue with a 2nd round tender if you're talking contract with him and are ready to match a big offer. Maybe it makes sense this year, that offer might not come. You did set yourself up though for a stupid team to do something stupid. He's the type of young CB that teams will give massive deals. Let's hope this works out.

In what might be the most adorable announcement, Kane Davis announced that his father Cody has re-signed with NE for 2 more years.

I would like to see them re-sign Nick Folk. I like him a lot better than the 2 guys they currently have.

The more I read and study the QBs, the value guy is Kyle Trask. He's getting knocked for not being mobile, yet he's much more mobile than Tom Brady. You know the GOAT and current SP MVP. Mel Kiper talks about his flaws showing in the bowl game, yet his top four pass catchers all opted out. No QB in the Country will look good down their top four pass catchers. Not that he doesn't have flaws, yet he's so advanced at reading defenses, moving defenders with his eyes and putting the ball where it needs to be that you can't help put wonder what he's like in a few years if he goes to the right system.
I actually love watching his tape because he gets pressure in a bunch of games against elite SEC teams. It shows some warts, yet also shows his big Ben like traits. He shuffles his feet just like Ben, he can make throws with guys on his legs. He moves around in the pocket with good footwork which is impressive for a guy with limited starts. 408 yards, 65% completion percentage,3 TD and 44 points against Bama. While getting sacked five times and that D having 7 PD. Compared to 194 yards, 51.5%, 1 TD and 24 points for Justin Fields a few weeks later.
I get the NFL is a copy cat league and a bunch of really good dual threat guys are doing great things. In a perfect world you get one of those. Yet at the same time I think we are starting to undervalue guys who aren't dual threat guys.
Mac Jones is just impossible to scout. Bama just dominates everyone. He seems to have a little more velocity than Trask, yet both just run the offense and put the ball where it needs to go. The difference is I don't see Jones in trouble much and he gets so many wide open guys. Both guys have elite talent for weapons, Bama is just at another level. Much more complete, with a better OL and power running game. He gets the ball out quickly, makes some impressive throws to crazy WRs. I can't tell if he's just that good or it's just the perfect team and he's in for a rude awakening in the NFL. It's Aaron Nesmith shooting crazy wide open three's his last year in College type crap. He looked damn good doing it, you just won't get that in the NFL. I wanted to see him face a team that could challenge him. I see Trask make more throws with a defender close, placing the ball perfectly where only his guy can make a play on it.

Sorry if this has been asked recently... but... regarding players NE has signed, which ones factor into the compensatory picks process? I'm assuming if a player was cut, then signed by NE, then there would be no strings attached regarding the comp pick formula. And, if a player left as a free agent (Thuney) then a team signing him... would factor into the comp pick formula. Is there a chart showing each player NE signed and how that might factor into comp picks? Also, what about 2020 NE players who've signed elsewhere?

Love it
This defense could end up being a major problem for opposing teams

That's like the last major piece, basically depth pieces needed now.

Lee and Allen released
Also, Cannon trade is a bit different than first reported.
NE Gets 4th (122) and 6th (187) HOU Gets Cannon, 5th (158) and 6th (194).

Comp picks are a net gain, meaning you need to lose more than you sign. A bunch of crap then goes into the formula like salary, playing time, etc. I see absolutely no way we get comp picks next year.

Patriots were runner ups to AJ Green, which would have made sense. Adding a big guy. Not many of those guys left though. Maybe gamble on Perriman, though I really want to draft a WR.
I have to say I'm impressed. Bill has built the team up, addressed all of the major needs. No having to draft guys to fill big holes besides the one at QB. You could easily ship out our first, second and second next year to move up if you wanted too. Allows you to focus on taking the best players, not having to draft for need.
