That's one of the better gets I've seen in a mock. I do doubt if he lasts that long. We need impactful players at many positions.

I think he's worth a 2nd, leaving the 1st to draft a great WR.

A 32 year old franchise type QB with 20 and 23m cap hits the next 2 years is going to cost you a first round pick, plus. You may not want to pay that considering where this roster is and I’d understand that take but he’s going to get more than a first round pick back via trade. We got a first for one year of Cooks.

I'd seen the Carson Palmer trade as a comparison, with something like a 1st and a 3rd.
I think if this team felt closer he would make sense. But I'd rather take some bigger swings for the future. Maybe a successful free agency would change the tune, but the Carson Palmer deal still seems steep.
We are getting to a point where maybe Bill starts selling out for the present since he might feel his own clock ticking. Might make the Pats more like a "normal" team where a GM always hears footsteps.

Stafford kinda reminds me of Bledsoe. A great arm that can make some big time throws, win you some games. Yet also isn't mobile, takes a ton of sacks, fumbles a lot. He's always had very good weapons, yet is 0-3 in his career in the playoffs.
I don't see how you make that trade and get him the weapons he needs while also building a great team around him. Unless you give him a big extension and lower the first couple of years.

The good news is Stafford doesn’t make huge money for a QB relative to the rest of the league- Lazar projects us to have roughly 40 mill to play with if they trade for him. And I think that’s without things that could conceivably happen like Cannon and Hightower retiring or various extensions/restructures.

Brady yet another Superbowl. Yikes. Ouch that hurts. I'm so conflicted. He's obviously fading some but the Pats never would have had the weapons for him to succeed like Tampa. I am glad his success is validated but kinda wish he'd more dramatically floundered. Are they gonna have to name the superbowl MVP after this guy?

It’s not conflicted - go win another Tom. Stopping the Bills or Chiefs would be sweet.

Agree there's nothing conflicting about it. The guy is a legend doing legend things, and nothing about this run changes anything about the Pats 6 Super Bowl wins with him. I love to see it and feel like I get to root for something in the Super Bowl.

No conflict for me, once the pats got eliminated from the playoffs it was always my hope Brady would keep things going
If he can pull off Brees/Rodgers/Mahomes in one playoff....

There's no conflict. Just mad at the Patriots for not continuing to build a offense around Brady. He probably would have stayed if he was more comfortable. This kind of sums it up from his wife-

I think they tried to get Brady talent, it just didn’t work out and they had zero money to spend last offseason. It was smart of Brady to leave for greener pastures, he only has so much time yet and shouldn’t have to go through a transition season
I mean just in-season alone they traded a 2nd for Sanu and signed Tom Brady’s apparent best friend, notorious good-guy AB. They spent a first on a wideout. Nothing worked out
I do also think the BB/Brady relationship was stale, which is what happens after 20 years. It was a hell of a run and something I’ll always remember fondly

Allowed teams to double Edelman and really hurt the run game.

I was rooting almost as hard for the Bucs as I would have if the Pats were playing. Brady will always be a Patriot in my heart and I hope he wins 2 more. For some reason, Brady has a knack for winning no matter the odds or who he is playing. He was supposed to lose to Brees, then to Rodgers, now to Mac. Make him an underdog at your peril. I would be thrilled if he beat KC.

I guess I'm the only one conflicted! Would like Brady over the Chiefs though.
The hate on Justin Fields is getting a bit nuts. David Jeramiah has him at 7th to the Lions, with Wilson at 2 and Lance at 4. McShay had him falling to the Pats at 15. Fields looks better than Jameis or Mariota did in college and they went 1/2. He has high quality wins against top-notch teams, which neither Wilson nor Lance showed. He's grown a lot in only 1.5 years as a starter, so there's a good chance he can improve his reads and getting the ball out fast (only knocks against him).
If he falls into the range the Pats can move up for him, sprint to the podium.

It's a little early to be judging draft rankings, for me after the combine it really starts. Nevermind stupid crap happens, like teams comparing Haskins to Fields. Fields interviews are going to be huge. How smart is he? Being a great NFL QB is about more than just talent. Nevermind the guys from elite teams are hard to judge because they almost always have a talent advantage.
I will say issues with reads and getting the ball out fast isn't the perfect match for the Patriots. So you have to believe he'll keep improving.

That’s why I like Wilson a lot. Fields worries me. Lance really worries me.

Not sure if you saw Fields against Clemson, but he had plenty of moxie after taking some huge hits and bouncing right back. His play in the 10 to 20 yard range went from a strength to elite too.
I love Wilson too but think he's got a much lower floor and the same ceiling as Fields

www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/id/30783236/17-deshaun-watson-trade-proposals-ranked-least-likely-most-likely-happen-2021-nfl-offseasonI should probably know better than to post an article from ESPN (and I promised myself I wouldn't get caught up in Watson trades) but here we are. The "thought" exercise goes through the list of teams, first eliminating those that would be less likely to try (set at QB; within the Texans division: "impractical" QB swaps, etc) and then ranking the remaining "offers" teams could put together (the fact that I'm using so many "" is probably indicative of how worthwhile I actually think this is). HOWEVER, the Pats are included in 3 of the 17 offers: - In the 17th ranked offer (where GB gets Watson) they involve themselves in the 4-way deal sending the 142nd pick to SF for Jimmy G - In the 10th scenario, they send 2 5th and Stidham to Houston (who get MUCH better assets from Minnesota so that the Vikings get Watson) in exchange for Cousins. - In the 5th ranked scenario, they deal directly with Houston sending JC Jackson, N'Keal Harry, 15 and the 3rd Rd Comp pick (this year), next year's 1st and a '23 2nd in exchange for Watson, TE Kahale Warring and a 6th next year. As I prepare to hit "post", I'm already ashamed of myself for opening up this can of worms. Regretfully yours . . .
