BA with a host of rankings to mark the start of the season. In The Top 10 Most Talented Minor League Rosters on Opening Day, the WooSox are ranked #7, second to the #1 Rays among AAA rosters.
Then there's MLB Scouts Identify 28 Prospects Turning Heads Entering 2021 Minor League Season. Only 16 different teams are represented. The Mets, Braves, Marlins, Padres, Giants, and Pirates land two each ... while the Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers land 3.

It is wild that Kopech has not graduated yet and is still in the Top 15. I feel like there aren't a lot of situations where a guy is ranked that highly seven years after being drafted. There are already three players in that draft with 20+ career bWAR.

Aggressive move on Duran but makes sense. They're buying into the power as are most and this could be one of their last chances to rank him appropriately before he reaches MLB. Two prospects in the BA top 30 has to be the first time since......?

And our first-round pick should give us three in the top 40 or 50, and four in the top 68.

Jeter Downs moving in the wrong direction. Looks like he won't be fixing a hole at 2B

He was just trying to get another Sgt. Pepper reference into the conversation. He hasn't given up on Downs. Downs has been a little inconsistent. Or you could say he's been going in an out of style. But he's guaranteed to raise a smile...We hope you will enjoy the show (which I think will start in the second half of 2022 when he gets called up to the RS).

I may have missed this in another thread. Will Valdez, Gambrell, and De La Rosa be added to the rankings as part of the 7/1 update or will they be slotted in somewhere prior to that? Thanks!

Chris mentioned in a chat that it is kind of a shame that Whitlock is graduating so soon. Jim Callis once said that the winter rankings are a snapshot in time. The snapshot before Whitlock graduated would surely have been better than the 23rd ranked farm. In case you missed stevedillard's reference

I was wondering this in the past, and with Whitlock graduating it made me think of it again. Is there rankings anywhere that combine minor league systems along with post graduates that are still cost controlled or even just the latter by itself? I think something like that could be useful in explaining much teams need to spend on high priced free agents and extensions.

We're working on it. As we discuss on the podcast today, it's been very hard to figure out where these guys go. Chris mentioned in a chat that it is kind of a shame that Whitlock is graduating so soon. Jim Callis once said that the winter rankings are a snapshot in time. The snapshot before Whitlock graduated would surely have been better than the 23rd ranked farm. I think back to Mookie's rise reading this - he was the midyear no. 1 prospect on BA's rankings after being #74 before the season, but graduated before the end of the year. So now when you look on his minor league BRef page it looks like nobody saw this coming until he got to the majors when the real issue is his rise was so incredibly meteoric. If we can somehow work in a reference to Polythene Pam, I'll really be impressed Dead serious, I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been trying to think of one. Or Mean Mr. Mustard. My failure to do so is a weight I'll be carrying for a long time.

You've switched albums. Those were on Abbey Road. Lot of potential there, though. This RS team is unified and has Come Together. It's really Something. Who needs Mookie? He's going to write to CB and say "You never give me your money."
But back to the rankings, I have to admit to being skeptical of Duran. He's 25 and this is really his first prolonged (if you'd even call a month "prolonged") success above single-A ball. The stuff I read on here about his defense isn't encouraging either.

Fangraphs updated their top prospects list - Casas is at 42, Downs is at 50, and Duran at 72.

It looks like FanGraphs will be doing a pre-draft farm system re-ranking today (Friday).
