Bello beefing up. Also noted how he's been working out at Pedro's home all off-season.

Actually I'd like to see, "Sale has put of 250 lbs and is in the best shape of his life."

At the end of 1999 22YO 6' 5" Juan Pena gave up one run in 13 innings with 15 Ks in two starts. Projected to start in 2000, he got hit in the elbow in ST and tore his MCL. Never made it back to mlb. Ah, you young'uns have such recent memories. Back in the early 60's Jerry Stephenson was burning up AAA and was thought about as the next coming of Herb Score. Then he pitched one day just after the circus had been set up in the stadium and the mound had been rebuilt after they left town. Stephenson was pitching that evening, slipped on loose dirt on the rebuilt mound, and blew out his elbow. Never amounted to anything.

Ah, never saw Stephenson pitch, as I did not become a BB fan until the 1968 W.S., but I did have his baseball card. Came in a set I ordered after the 68 season that contained all Red Sox cards. Good times !! Anyway, to stay on topic, I think Bello can handle the 15 lbs just fine. His future looks bright and how fortunate for him that he gets a transition season for his first full one. This allows him to absorb the growing pains without risk of being removed from the rotation. His development will be one of the fun stories of 2023.

Putting on 15 Lb's of muscle on in 3 months is pretty close to impossible without PEDs, strong peds too. That's more than an Lb a muscle a week which is just bonkers.
What I could believe is that he's put on 4-6 Lbs of solid muscle and perhaps is retaining more water weight, which is natural when trying to put on muscle and eating more calories.
If I were to take that claim to heart and assume the best then I'd think (hope) he takes half that weight off by the time the season starts and is in really great condition. If this is accurate, I don't see walking about with an extra 6 lb's or so being a big deal, in that it shouldn't be so extreme it messes up his mechanics or anything like that.

I get why people are skeptical/cautious about this, but I also don't think they'd be talking about it in such a positive light if they weren't confident it was good weight he put on, so I'm pretty comfortable with this and will worry only when he gives me a reason to.

My 2 year old son was in the bottom 1% of weight then put on 15 pounds and moved up to the bottom 40%. Bello was pretty skinny to start with. Maybe the leg strength will add velocity to his fast ball.

Won't speak for Bello or his body, but 25 is when my body filled out and I wasn't a skinny dude anymore. Around Bello's age is where I think you can really pack on weight with ease.

It's been almost 4 months and some research has shown novice weight lifters can gain more than professional lifters and could add 1-4 lbs of muscle a month. It also doesn't say it was 15 lbs of muscle, but just 15 lbs. He could have put on 10 lbs of muscle in that soan.

Is that an estimate of weight or did he maybe even start a new regiment around mid season and that weight is a comparison to what his weight was at the beginning of the season. Maybe I’m the only one that doesn’t receive weekly weight reports on players? What I’m most excited about is him adding a curve to go with the heat and him going into the season with more confidence! I’m not sure what we can reasonably expect for IP this season, but If he gives you 120 I’ll be happy.

For Bello's part, he has focused on improving. He worked out with Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez this winter in the Dominican Republic, where they concentrated on throwing his fastball up and the zone and commanding his slider.
He hopes he's ready to start combining those lessons with last year's debut experience to take a leap forward. "I'm not taking anything for granted this offseason," Bello said. "Going in with the same plan I had last year and just working hard to be on that opening day roster." www.yahoo.com/sports/why-brayan-bello-most-important-184500626.html

I have low expectations for the 23 season. Hopefully we all get a pleasant surprise. If Bello could take that next step it would be an enormous boost. The fact that Pedro has taken him under his wing certainly cant hurt.

Has there been any updates on Bello? They said last week that he'd throw Monday, but I haven't seen anything anywhere.

Better today , but still not good enough. Seems like he nibbles to much and is always ending up in deep counts.

Bello also didn’t get 4 starts in spring training. He got 2 innings in and one start on Worcester
This was effectively his last spring training game.
Bello showed us he can adjust last year, once he’s up to speed, gets some more innings in his command will be more consistent and he will be ok.
Bello has nasty stuff. How good he is will come down to how consistent his command is. I’ll start worrying about his consistency if he’s still Struggling after a few more starts.
Today was better but still not what you’d like to see. Hopefully it was enough for him to build off of.
It almost seems to be a 2023 theme to have a bad start or two and then look great. But ask me that again tomorrow night.
