So to recap... In a series that was labeled "unacceptable" and "rock bottom" for the Red Sox just a few pages earlier in this thread, they:
- Came back from a 5.3% win expectancy to win game 1 - Came back from a 28% win expectancy to win game 2 with their starter out of the game due to illness and facing the Yankees' ace - Came back from a 2.7% win expectancy to win game 4 - Won 3 out of 4 against the Yankees and pushed them to 9 games back - Pushed their season mark to 10-3 against them - Ended the series with sole possession of first place

What is this penomenon called? Inverted deja vu? If you steal one...we will steal one back! We steal one back... and make it look like robbery. At least the Yanks yesterday had 10 hits, we do ours with 5 hits and an xBA of .145.

Don't give up! But what about a wild pitch when there is a runner on 1st with less than 2 outs? Those are outs where the ball isn't caught. Back to this... I think this has to do with preventing catchers from intentionally dropping the 3rd strike and turning a double play. Because the base is occupied. The runner on first can attempt to steal which also complicates matters. Also, for your general reading pleasure link

Maybe we can trade Workman for a potentially intriguing minor league lottery ticket now that he got the big "W" today.

redsoxfan2 -- Perex is an above average 5th starter. That's all anyone has claimed him to be since they signed him. He just gave you a quality start. Will he be here next year? Probably not. Can they get a decent prospect in return at the deadline if they choose to trade him? Probably, with his very cheap contact with a cheap option.
Maybe they get somebody that would be 13th or 14th on our prospect ranking. Will they trade him? Probably not. You don't give up starting pitching depth when you're contending unless you're Tampa Bay and you need to mind your budget.
As for your other comment: The Red Sox are 18 and 8 since the 25th of June. Dude, the sky is not falling; the Red Sox are outperforming all projections, likely even their most optimistic internal projections. Plus, Sale is returning soon!
Enjoy the unexpected good tidings and continue to hope good things keep on coming! It'll be OK! Just a little perspective before you mistake the distance from the ledge!

Wow! Just f'n wow!
True story: April 22, 2007. I got PO'ed because we got behind the MFYs and couldn't string hits together. I decided to do some laundry to distract myself. Bombs started flying! Four in a row! We won the game.
Today, I was so disgusted after the seventh inning that I decided to turn the game off and do some laundry. I checked my phone during the rinse cycle and we're up 5-4!!
Gives new meaning to the expression: "Rooting for the laundry."

Martin Perez has given up more than 3 runs in only 3 starts this season. The second best on the team by that particular metric is Eovaldi, with 6 such starts.
He keeps them in games. And look what happens when you keep this team in games...

When Verdugo led off the eighth with that double, the way he instantly spun toward the dugout and pointed made it look like he was saying “told you so.”
I really like Verdugo. I don’t know if he will ever be worth more than 3.5 WAR in a season, but he is a professional hitter who loves to play baseball. His attitude is infectious.

Even when he’s going poorly his at-bats are professional. He’s probably the best situational hitter on the team IMO. I trust him to make contact when it’s needed more than anybody else

This is unacceptable. Sox will be three games down to TB by Wednesday at this rate. Well, I’m glad I woke up the Sox bats (LOL). Seriously, went out in the Carolina heat in disgust after 7th inning to help a buddy move a downed tree from a few weeks ago off his back lawn and came back to this. Amazing! And of course… GREAT WIN!!

The message is always the same: let the game play out before disemboweling yourself all over the blog. There are 24 possible base-out states for each of the 9 innings. That's more than enough room for every imaginable possibility and some we can't imagine. The critiques and perspectives are valuable, the whining less so. Give the teams time and stuff happens. The last two days show that.

That's the rational thing to do. But my MFY hatred is so vicious and I'm so conditioned to rooting against them that I'll find myself rooting for the Rays. I know it makes no sense, but nothing about having mood swings all my life based on the fortunes of the Boston Red Sox makes sense. We are all nuts.

Great comeback win. The bullpen has been a big part of the team’s success this year. However Rios and Workman are the two weakest links, with shaky control. Clear room for improvement, with DFA and either trade(s) or call ups.
