Martin Perez has given up more than 3 runs in only 3 starts this season. The second best on the team by that particular metric is Eovaldi, with 6 such starts. He keeps them in games. And look what happens when you keep this team in games... How many of those starts were 6 inning starts? Sometimes he gives up 3 runs or less because he is getting pulled in the 4th.

Wait… people think we are going to get no-hit but ALSO don’t think Cora should “wave the white flag”? You want Barnes in to preserve the deficit you don’t think they’ll overcome? I believe these are two mutually exclusive groups of commenters: those who think the team is good enough to get come from behind wins, as they have 30-odd times this season, and those who engage in incessant mopey loserspeak.I'd patent that one.

I always assume these are people who weren't born under the "Curse of the Bambino" and have no idea what it truly like to believe the Sox will never win a World Series because the psychological pressure is so great it is an insurmountable obstacle. Some how they have inherited the justifiable negativity without absorbing the fact the Sox came back from down 0-3 to the Yankees to make MLB history and then anticlimactically swept the World Series.

Great comeback win. The bullpen has been a big part of the team’s success this year. However Rios and Workman are the two weakest links, with shaky control. Clear room for improvement, with DFA and either trade(s) or call ups. I’m no expert. But, one goes when Sale comes back. We pick up another arm at deadline in a couple of days.

One of my top 20 Sox wins of all time. The mirror image of last night makes it special. This hurt the Yankees so bad I'm feeling sympathy pains and I hate the Yankees. On another note. How much longer can they ride Duran's .182 with subpar D ? Let's get Santana or Franchy in there. LOL.

Left the house after the 7th inning to go to a local minor league game (cancelled due to smoke from wildfires -- it's brutal, especially since we missed $1 hot dog day). My buddy, who suffers in the tri-state area, sent me a text saying the Sox had won and I thought he was pulling my leg until he sent me a video clip of the YES men bemoaning the MFYs' misfortune and how today's loss "happened to them." Life is sweet...

When Verdugo led off the eighth with that double, the way he instantly spun toward the dugout and pointed made it look like he was saying “told you so.” I really like Verdugo. I don’t know if he will ever be worth more than 3.5 WAR in a season, but he is a professional hitter who loves to play baseball. His attitude is infectious. Lightning rod, glue guy. Even when he’s going poorly his at-bats are professional. He’s probably the best situational hitter on the team IMO. I trust him to make contact when it’s needed more than anybody else It is strange to me that Verdugo gets so much love (“Verdugod”?) when he is barely on a 2 bWAR pace. He has worse power numbers than Benintendi, who many people seem to feel is kaput. Guy is fine, but he reminds me of a poor-man’s Mike Greenwell. Not MVP Greenwell, but 30-year-old Greenwell. I also get that guys like him will be beloved while guys like JD Drew will tend to be undervalued.

Tomorrow's game takes on added significance. If the Sox beat the Yankees, they will leave Fenway feeling like crap, that their season might be about over. If they beat the Sox it's a big moral victory and they might think to themselves that if they get enough of their players back from injury or covid, they can make a real run at Oakland and grab the 2nd Wild Card spot and perhaps beat the Sox in a 1 game Wild Card game at Fenway. For the Sox, their 4.5 game lead is gone. With the loss today Tampa has tied them, so the Sox will be trying to stay in 1st place. Perez is not the guy I'd most like to see on the mound. Even with the Yankees AAA lineup I can see Perez struggling to get through 4 innings. The hope is that the Sox offense wakes up and Whitlock can give them 6 to 8 big outs. Ok yes the Rays have tied the Sox for first. But they had to go 13-3 to get there, which in my feeble mind means they won't keep that pace up much longer. They have 3 vs the mfy before 3 with us this week and I like the odds that they will be due for a few losses as an .813 winning % isn't maintainable. Just looking for the silver linings folks. Sox will win today and the Rays will lose, blind faith. Blind faith worked out!!

Had the Yankees won they would have left feeling good about themselves. Instead of that it's hard for them to feel worse. They wiped out a great comeback win with an even more hideous loss. Really wish I had YES network.

Verdugo gets love because he loves it here, team, city, fans, etc;. He wears 99 cause of Manny and grew up cheering for him and Big Papi. He also plays 100% all the time with a "smile" on his face and if you read any Yankee board (Pinstripe Alley to name one) you will see that he's the most hated Red Sox on the team since Pedey.

He’s had a lot of big hits this year. Easier to be remembered and thought of highly that way As for Drew I loved both him and his brother. I thought they were terrific players. JD was obviously the better of the two.

As I said, I get the difference between a guy like him and a guy like Drew. It buys a lot of grace.

He’s not nearly that good of a ball player. At least not right now.
