And Aceves, well, there was no reason not to bring him in, because of the huge lead, yet he gave up a three-run homer. I'm guessing Farrell brought him into the game because we were up 7-1. It's actually a perfect time to use someone who hasn't pitched in 4-5 days?? It seems that he has forgotten how to pitch- therefore, he shouldn't be on the team. You've determined that he has forgotten how to pitch because he gave up a HR? Is there some kind of new Sabermetric thing out there that shows that? Not really up on that stuff. Breslow and Bard are 1 inning guys. We're going to need a long man at some point. He seems pretty well suited to do that.Mortensen is a great long man. I'm happy to have him on the team. If a starter gets knocked out early in the game, he can easily pick up around 5 innings to help keep his team in the game. He did this several times last year. My biggest point about Aceves is that I think that he is a bad guy to have around the clubhouse and I think he should be traded. And no, I'm not judging Aceves' ability to pitch on that one home run. He was TERRIBLE at the end of last year. Maybe he will rebound, but I wouldn't be sure about it.

With the cold heavy air, I expect another small ball game.
Hopefully, WMB will crush another one but not to center!
BTW, did anyone see the reaction to his out to center?
I think he won a bench pool by reaching the warning track!

Miller was in to face 2 LHH. One of them got pinch hit for. The other was the real catch anyway. He needs to challenge weak RHH more. And Aceves needs to pull his head out of his a$$. And they could have used Mortensen instead of Aceves there, but either way should be about the same, Ace's attitude notwithstanding.

Annnnddddd that's, in part, why David Ross should be seeing at least 60% of the starts at C.

Pettitte is 68 years old and he's facing the most right handed lineup in the history of baseball. Why has he been allowed to escape the second inning? Unacceptable.

JBJ woulda had that. With ease, too.
edit: JBJ woulda had both of those. Thank god the Red Sox only signed this stiff Dempster for two years. (I'm only half-kidding with that comment.)

So, I guess I'll be making plans on nights Dempster is pitching.

How long until the media turns on Dempster?
Bloop hits and a routine fly ball that is a HR only in Yankee stadium
Walks 4 per 9 innings in his career so I'm not necessarily concerned about those at this point

That bunt by Iglesias was a thing of beauty. He's looking like a gamer.

Tough night for Dempster, but he didn't look all that bad. Yankees hitters were intent on taking pitches and so he racked up a bunch of strikeouts and walks.
Iglesias with another textbook push bunt up the first-base line. He really flies down the line and it's going to be tough for pitchers to beat him to the bag if he gets it past them. Picking up a dozen or two of those is really going to help boost his stat line and help this team by putting a fast baserunner on in front of the top of the order.

Two for two runners thrown out in the same game by Red Sox catchers? Are my eyes deceiving me?

I say the same thing when a guy gets a free 1B or 2B because of the monster. It's a bit different than a fly ball HR. To hit a HR over the monster you still have to hit it fairly well. Not so to hit a HR in RF at Yankee Stadium

By about eight inches. And then David Ross hits it to the deepest part of the park and Gardener shows off incredible range to grab it on the warning track.

Wonderful, Victorino gets hurt and the sox run themselves out of the inning. I like the aggressiveness at least Pedroia, Victorino. Why not a $50,000 fine every time you dive into a base on anything other than a pickoff move?

The Yankees are running themselves out of innings in this game.

Mortenson has been pitching off his slider and not his fastball since the middle of last year. When he locates it well and guys are swinging, he can miss bats and get ground balls. When he hangs one, even Francisco Cervelli can give it a ride.
