Today I learned: Edwin Diaz's FIP since the beginning of June is 0.09.
To repeat: his FIP since the beginning of June is 0.09.
That's 33 innings of 17.28 K/9, 1.89 BB/9, and zero home runs.

Not baseball related, but I just walked into my office and all 8 of my hens followed me and sat on my feet, and 2 minutes later the livestock guardian bumbled in like the chief from Police Academy...

There is no more exciting place in baseball right now than Citi Field in the 9th inning.

I think it went up then a little. I remember on a podcast they said it was in the negatives some like a week or so ago. Edit: After looking the lowest I found was from June 10th to August 12th, -0.89 FIP

I’m not sure I follow…

If you strike out enough batters you're allowed a second DH in the lineup.

Dobnak outrighted. Boston should claim him just to have that 80s Porn Stache on the roster. He had talent at some point but its been a rough year + for him.

I had the same thought and then remembered he had signed an extension so then I was leery but I looked up his contract and he is due $7.750M over the next four seasons. Like you point out he showed some talent at one point and will be just 28 opening day next season. ZIPS is relatively bullish on him with projections of 1.2,1.3 & 1.2 WAR the next 3 years. He probably would get eaten alive in the AL East though so not sure he's a great target but I wouldn't be opposed to it either.

From the oldies but goodies humor box: Thinks he's got everyone fooled with the old underwater pitch until he has to face a Trout.

So can Xander stop Judge from getting the Triple Crown? Am I supposed to root for Luis Araez, the third guy in the race, to get hits? I think I am.

It is a bitter pill, but Judge is having one of the greatest seasons of all time. Better not cap it with a title.

Back in action, here. I've been out of commission watching a grandchild bring focus to the world, and doing a bit of writing though I have been peeking in frequently. This is an outstanding piece from fivethirtyeight. The share of fastballs thrown has dropped from 65% in 2002, to under 50% now in 2022. It's a deep dive into the reasons why guided by pitching coach Ethan Katz of the White Sox.

Nothing on Albert's 700th is a bit shocking...
Elias Sports Bureau @eliassports Fun fact: this was Albert Pujols’ 500th career home run against a right-handed pitcher. His 200th career home run against a left-handed pitcher came earlier tonight off of Andrew Heaney.
