Per Twitter. Stearns steps down as POBO in Milwaukee. He will remain as an advisor. Have to assume only a matter of time before he ends up with either the Mets or Astros

Well, the Raiders did it, so.... Las Vegas would be the fourth location if the Athletics franchise, having originated in Philadelphia before the mibe to Kansas City and then Oakland.

How come all the sports leagues want to get teams into Vegas? It's only the 29th largest metro area in the US, behind Sacramento, Portland, Austin, San Antonio, and Charlotte. And no one is actually *from* Las Vegas so it's not like there's a lot of civic identity to build on. Plus it's the most obviously doomed city humans have ever built, though that future probably lies past the 10 year time horizon or whatever for profit-seeking ownership decisions.

Gambling I thought about that but why does it matter since the Supreme Court said that gambling has to be legal everywhere?

I thought about that but why does it matter since the Supreme Court said that gambling has to be legal everywhere? It isn’t a huge city, but what is its population when you add tourists at any given time? Since it is a destination, this is one more thing for visitors to do. I suspect as well casinos buy whole chunks of season tickets. I know they are crazy about the Raiders and Knights.

I'd imagine they get a lot of corporate sponsorship with the casinos purchasing up the boxes to use as comps for their high rollers. Plus lots of tourists.

Very true and absolutely against the spirit of sports. Different conversation, definitely, but the industrialization and commodification of the game has just gotten so gross lately.

I mean if you're there for a week to gamble and you partake in sports betting, why wouldn't you take in a Vegas Aviators game (although I liked the "51s" name better)?
EDIT: Seems like it would become a popular hangover-helper activity for sports-fan tourists.

There's a lot of money there, and I think they're more likely to get a publicly funded stadium out of Vegas. Plus, like others have said, the population alone is misleading because there are always so many out-of-towners there. As far as the other places? Charlotte just spent a money on a Triple-A stadium, which is apparently gorgeous but seemingly hard to upgrade. Portland and Sacramento are going to be much harder to get taxpayers to fund (especially Sacramento after the Kings fiasco). Plus, wasn't there a thing where Sacramento was somehow in the range where the Giants could veto them? I know that was an issue for San Jose. And there are already two teams in Texas so that'd be a harder sell to the league. I do think we'll get a Portland team in the next decade though. I'm pretty surprised we haven't seen the leagues expand to 16 teams apiece already.

Huh. Portland is interesting. I live in WA — not Seattle — but I wonder if Portland can support a baseball team. It is a good sports town, but it isn’t huge.

It's grown a lot and the basketball team has obviously done very well for a long time. I neglected to mention Montreal and Vancouver as well. Montreal is a pretty obvious one. I think I read that they preferred an expansion team there to a move? Trying to see if I can find that somewhere.

Vlad Jr was being interviewed and he said he would never play for the MFY’S. Chaim save some money for this kid when his time is up. He would be a superstar in Fenway.

So James click went to Houston and cleaned up the entire cheating scandal and did as good as job as you can possibly do and his reward after a world championship is a one year contract? Wonder if we can get him in organization in some capacity.

Wonder if we can get him in organization in some capacity. The owner vetoing his trades because Dusty Baker whispered in his ear was a pretty good indication that his job is not secure.
