Speechless.
That has to be one of the worst losses I’ve ever seen.

If you had told me April 2021 that we're going to make the ALCS once in the next two years I would have taken it.

Speechless. That has to be one of the worst losses I’ve ever seen. thankfully, Baltimore games are blacked out on mlb.tv here. I got to listen to the deflated radio announces. Are we at rock bottom....yet!? Why does our team alternate seasons so wildly? Why does Cora's teams come out of spring training so flat? so many questions...

Room service chance blown, coming after you don't score. BAD baseball on two counts. Ten left on against BAl, that can't happen.

Such a horrendous loss. This team is just so bad right now

Well, that was a predictable loss. The offense is deadass.
The bullpen sucks, and Barnes is done.
It's so early in the season, and there's so much time to turn things around, but honestly this team is DOA.
This team just finds ways to lose winnable games. This team flat out doesn't have "it". It's not there this year. This is not a tough team. They're highly beatable. Despite their obvious flaws they should be better, but whatever grit they played with on 2021, they clearly lack it in 2022.
August's swoon last year bothered me because those losses felt like they meant something.
This year, these ghastly losses don't bother me. This team isnt going anywhere meaningful. It already feels like they're playing out the string. Hard to invest any real emotion into this team. They're not worth it.

The good news is we can still get under the luxury tax.

The team looks pathetic, and a lot of it has to fall on Bloom. Way too many automatic outs on this team. Not enough reliable arms in the bullpen.

Even without Bodiger and Palmer, MASN broadcasts are much more informative and researched than NESN broadcasts.
Barnes SSS (sans sticky stuff) is a major overpay.
On the plus side, Dalbec might have figured out the best way for him to reach base.

Too all those who are talking selling if this doesnt turn around? What exactly are you selling. I am seeing a lot of spare parts without a lot of value.

The problem with selling: that wouldn’t just be throwing in the towel now… it would be the next few years. There is not a ton of talent that looks ready for 23/24, and the free agent market is limited.

Honestly, being bad happens. I accept that. But being boring is unforgivable.

Five blown saves in 22 games? Classic. Bullpens by committee are never a good idea.
Then again - if our team could actually hit, it would lead to far less wasted brilliant starts.

The team looks pathetic, and a lot of it has to fall on Bloom. Way too many automatic outs on this team. Not enough reliable arms in the bullpen. Disagree. The biggest issue has been the offense, and it's almost the same team finished 5th in MLB in runs scored last year. wRC+ difference 2021 vs. 2022:
Bogaerts: +39 Bradley (NEW ADDITION): +10
Martinez: +10 Devers: -13 Verdugo: -25 Vazquez: -30 Story (NEW ADDITION): -32
Hernandez: -37
Arroyo: -66 Dalbec: -77 Plawecki: -122 Shaw: -178
Was Bloom supposed to anticipate almost every player on the team simultaneously starting the season like garbage?
Edit: The Sox are 12th in team ERA, but 24th in team runs and 29th in OBP. Only the White Sox have been worse at getting on base.

I'm down for an Astros-style rebuild. Trade everything that has value, trot out terrible teams for a couple of years and get high draft picks, and then dominate for a while. That would be better than what we're seeing now: a highly paid, grossly underachieving team that is no fun to watch. You can't do laundry cart rides after homers if you never hit homers.

The Angels seem like the team that's going to want Xander the most.
Unfortunately their farm system looks like a total dumpster fire.

Bradley has improved only because he was so godawful last year. Arroyo is a 26th man at best who NEVER walks. Vazquez stunk last year, so there was no reason to expect him to be good. And there is no depth at Triple-A (I know Casas is a great prospect, but you can't bring him up until he's ready). Refsnyder is not good, and they must think so little of him they picked up a guy the Giants waived and added him immediately in his place.

Again, not in the selloff side but we could still have a decent core.
Starters Sale, Paxton, Houck and Whitlock.
Story can play SS and Kiké can play 2B.
We have a number of intriguing arms on the horizon and Casas.
All would not be lost, only this year.

This is completely unconvincing to me -- it actually makes my point.
It says right there that the average game is called 94% accurately and is 94% consistent -- if the umps were students in your professor's cushy class, they'd average an A and he'd have to earn his money figuring out how to grade them on a curve.
So there were 133 pitches called balls or strikes (i.e. not struck by a bat) by the ump in this random sample of a game. An average ump would miss 8 pitches out of 133, in 18 half-innings -- that's less than one miss for every two half-innings. It's simply not enough to get anyone's panties in a wad over it.
Obviously, there are better umps and worse umps, so over time you cull out the worse umps, rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater and radically changing the game.
I guess my advice to those who can't bear 94% accuracy and 94% consistency from baseball umpires is to never watch football and never, ever watch basketball. Those refs will have you jumping off a tall building.
