So the final in and out ended up being:
Out:
Vazquez (rental)
Diekman (Chicago paid full salary)
Groome (#16 prospect pre-August ranking)
PTBNL
In:
Hosmer (San Diego paid full salary)
Pham (potentially controlled through 2023)
McGuire (controlled through 2025)
Valdez (#16 prospect)
Abreu (#26 prospect)
Ferguson (#57 prospect)
Rosier (#56 prospect)
There was no massive trade or sell off that people wanted, but that’s a successful set of trades. The Major League team improved and so did the farm. Could they have done better? Of course. But they improved and that’s the name of the game.
I don't know about the they improved part. Added some middling prospects from what the initial rankings from Sox Prospect show. So it improved depth in the Minors if you consider that improved. but also adds more rule 5 guys
As far as the Sox Vasquez is a loss. Pham added offense for worse defense. Diekman for Mcguire is just a salary dump. I wouldn't have traded for him but that is personal not professional. The only chance I see for a improvement is Eric and he is a guy that San Diego wanted to get rid of so bad that he was in two trades and is only coming to the Sox because he would not go to Washington. That and they gave prospects and are willing to eat his salary. He is from down here so I am pulling for him and Fenway to turn it around. I always thought his swing would play at Fenway. But that is just hope he could also continue his decline. Improved maybe, Maybe not. But for sure less improvement than most of the clubs ahead of us. Right now I am thinking 4th place in the East.
