I am going to ask folks to move on from the ref discussion. No one is going to change anyone else’s mind and it is getting personal. Thanks.

Why can't we acknowledge that bad calls by the refs flipped the game, but it's the Patriots fault for being in that position?

Not this stuff - when the Red Sox lose, it's always the umps. Bruins - its the refs. Now the Patriots -= it's the refs. Nope - this is an earned loss. I've been an all Boston sports fan for nearly 60 years but I can be objective. Don't grab facemasks. Don't run into punters. Go out of bounds when you need to save timeouts. And no, I am not convinced that Mac is the QB we want to lead this team. Nah outside of the running into the punter the refs were responsible for this one. 11 point swing on the blatant kickoff hold and stupid Henry TD overturn. Won’t take any criticism of my opinion on this. **** the refs, they blew this one. I so much agree with this and stated to friends via text as much before reading this. I dare anyone here to say this 11 point swing was anything but crooked.

I’m not one for the ref conspiracy stuff, but there have been a few big missed calls on Minnesota and some 50/50 calls that were called on New England that have materially affected the game. I feel you go out of your way to never blame the refs even when anyone else would say different so for you to say this, wow, and the hill billy anouncers not to question anything for me is the smoking gun in an of it self. The league should issue an apology to everyone for a god dam disgrace of calls made one after another after another after another all going one way when at best maybe a couple could have been calle either way. Any reasonable fan should assume this game was Rigged rigged rigged. I'm disgusted. See this is the problem. You can say what Jmei said. That there were some 50/50 calls that didn’t go Pats way ( I probably disagree). Then you can say it’s a conspiracy to propogate the Minnesota Vikings. Any reasonable fan does not walk away thinking the game was rigged. They walk away thinking “man the Patriots should have (and needed to) win a game that they lost.”

For me the game was 14 points by special teams, kickoff return and hitting the punter giving the Vikings a TD.
Yeah they kinda shot themselves in the foot repeatedly. Stupid penalties, Duggar falling down, etc.
Still don't feel bad, as that's the best Mac Jones has looked all year.

Why can't we acknowledge that bad calls by the refs flipped the game, but it's the Patriots fault for being in that position? That’s what I don’t get. Sometimes, it isn’t a one or the other situation. The refs made some highly questionable to egregious calls/missed calls that directly led to an 11-point swing. The Pats also had maybe the worst special teams performance ever under Belichick and could not make a big third-down play to save their lives against a very average QB (although, in fairness, Minnesota has one of the best receivers I’ve ever seen who makes plays at the biggest moments). I can’t imagine thinking there’s an NFL conspiracy to rig a game for Minnesota, but the officiating and convoluted rule book continues to make the game worse. The Pats got the short end of all of those bad calls tonight. It’s definitely among the reasons they lost, but it’s certainly not the only reason.

Good teams win games like that. This is not a good team. That is irrelivent, completely. The refs in this league at best are completely incompitent. If you think I'm wrong lets talk about the deflate gate profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/05/transcript-proves-nfl-didnt-know-air-pressure-could-drop-naturally/and the fact the league spent about 50 Million and ignored laws of nature regarding deflate gate. In addition to that they promised to release results and studies done the next season, which never happened why did it not? www.insidehook.com/daily_brief/sports/report-nfl-covered-deflategate-air-pressure-measurementsThose that don't want to admit conspiracies happen all the time need to take their heads out of their asses. Sorry to be so blunt but sometimes that is exactly what it takes. This is evidence right here they do. The special on Netflix confirmed they do in the NBA then and now. Their was another netflix special which confirmed the third biggest bank in the world laundered money for Mexican cartles and the USA DA did all it could to ignore it until public pressure forced them to adress it and they fined them such a small amount as to make one puke. Conspiracies are factual, and wide spread, denying it shows your intelect level. Wake up. If Money is involved so is corruption, that is a simple basic fact that to deny is a litmus test for your intelligence.

I agree with this, what was happening upthread was more a reaction to the "ref conspiracy" argument, the comment that the refs impacted the game on the margins is very appropriate and that plus our execution doomed us. I'd quibble on the 11 pts though. Even on that Dugger hold, good special teams play would have just meant that missed call got them another 10-20 yards so I can't give that 7 points entirely to that missed call. And we'll have to agree to disagree on the Hunter Henry TD, even though his hand started under the ball, it rolled into the ground.

If the contain guy is blatantly held and you have a KR as good as Kene there will be problems. Dugger is the key to the entire coverage.

The issue I have with the decision (besides this being literally the dumbest rule in sports) is that it isn’t called consistently and I’m not sure there was indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field. I don’t disagree with you on good special teams covering that up regardless of the missed call, but that hold was so blatant in an open-field situation that it’s inexplicable for the entire crew to miss it. They get paid a lot of money to do a job, and it seems like NFL refs get worse at it every year.

I do want to point out that the pats absolutely played some incredibly stupid football. I just think the officiating was one-sided and this team isn’t good enough to overcome that, so I’m frustrated
I will say this- offense looked pretty good overall

The patriots played a very sloppy game. The officials did make some suspect or no calls on several key plays but the reason the Pats lost is they didn't execute well enough to win. The defense looked like they were playing on a short week and never seemed settled. Mac looked better this game, love the fire in this kid. BB needs to re-group and get his team ready for Buffalo next week.

When I talked about MP being impressive two games ago, this last game is the proof. No crazy good Jets D and Mac looks like a darn good young QB because the D can't dominate our line rushing four players.
Mac looked more impressive than Cousins given he doesn't have an elite WR like Cousins does. How does Cousins look without Jefferson? Still can't believe he went one pick before we were going to take him. Bill like trade up!
Cowboys game had the opposite effect I thought it would. Short turnaround giving the D less time to prepare played a bigger role than I would have thought. Especially with the Vikings throwing the kitchen sink at you play wise. Add in the stupid penalties, guys falling down and special teams killing you. I don't think their frauds. Unless you thought they were some truly elite unit.
Special teams was a disaster. Not the type of impact I want our rookie RB making. Kickoff returned for TD, allowing a TD after D stopped them, punter was horrible and no ability to get touch backs on kickoffs is going to be a big problem the rest of the year. Not a good look given the talent, money and time invested in that unit. How many different punters have we cycled through as backups this year? Bailey has been rather horrible, yet you forget he's money on kickoffs.
So not a single nice thing about our OC and QB coach? They have completely changed the offense and just produced Mac Jones career high in passing yards at 382 yards 2 TDs, no interceptions and could have been 3 TDs. That might be his most impressive game of his career. Meyers left game twice and wasn't playing almost every play like he usually does. Mac was spreading the ball around and making big plays to multiple guys. He's still a 2nd year QB who had limited experience in College, yet that was darn impressive given where we was a few weeks back. I'm certainly impressed with MP as a first year OC.
The loss sucks, it's like the Green Bay game you let an easily winnable game get away from you. Our path to playoffs is much harder now. I still feel better than before the game. Mac looks better than ever, showing you his self confidence, ability to adjust and just his arm talent when he's comfortable. Even that long Aguilar play at end of game he put it right where it needed to go to avoid getting picked off, if he'd just saw the ball a second earlier.
Stevenson is great, yet the rushing attack just isn't the same without both Harris and Stevenson.

They had a nice offensive game against Minnesota. Unfortunately, it seems the defense might be frauds. The Vikings were a team with a negative differential before this game. They have a very soft pass defense. 276.1 YPG-32nd PFF Pass rush: 73.8-11th PFF Coverage: 59.1 21st DVOA: 10.8%-19th Their rush defense is a bit better. 114.6 YPG-13th PFF: 85.3-2nd DVOA: -8.2%-13th Mac is playing a lot better though. That can't be ignored, but the Vikings aren't a very good defense and they only scored 3 offensive points the week before.

He has been surprisingly decent. A little slow but he sets the edge really well from what I’ve seen and is not the fanbases whipping boy I was expecting him to be when I first saw him play

Tavai getting a 2 yr extension. 4.4M per reports. 4.4 per year for mediocrity? Sweet.. It’s 4.4 total from what I’ve seen. PFF has him top 25 iirc if you put stock into them Also 4.4 is a pretty standard rate for mediocre players so even if it were 4.4 per I wouldn’t get the displeasure. Wouldn’t be that bad given Tavai’s role so far (2 down LB on the edge, core ST)

Correct "per reports" not "per, reports".

It’s also “up to $4.4 million” which suggests a chunk of that is incentive-based. For a rotation player and core special teamer, that’s a pretty team-friendly team.

I'm not looking at results and I'm taking context into account. Our OC and QB coach fixed Mac Jones, went from horrible to career high in yards, one of his best games as a pro. The only difference between the two games is no Jets D and defensive line. Everyone complained the offense didn't fit Mac Jones, they have totally redone it. That doesn't deserve praise? The results aren't going to be great till you fix the OL. Even against the Vikings we can't run like we did last year. I mean look at Brady with a shaky OL and no ability to run. The stat I like more is Mac Jones the last two weeks put up the 2nd most passing yards against the Jets and Vikings D for the year. All year it's our OC and QB coach suck, when the bigger issue is the OL sucks. Bills biggest mistake wasn't those two, it's what he did to the OL.

Per Tom Pelissaro, looks like Pats got the Cap Space they need to navigate the rest of the season by converting some of Judon's salary into a bonus.
