Yet another win. Never go out to watch a game with others, you will miss most of the game. Do they make a trade at the deadline, do they even need to???

Trade deadline thoughts, will Sweeney go big or will he nibble on the edges. This team barring any major injuries is loaded, a 3rd pair Dman with size should do it, any thoughts?

Grz was overdue for that, he’s been too good this year

Frederic has turned into a pretty impressive player this year. He's fun to watch.

Supposedly the Bs have a deal in place for Vladislav Gavrikov, but need to clear space ($$)first. Is Columbus gets another offer in the meantime they’ll move on.

Apparently they’re working on a cap dump deal with our best friends the mighty ducks of Anaheim
Then it would be a 1st + prospect for Gavrikov. They HAVE apparently talked extension too.

I hate this on the surface, but I hated the Lindholm and Ullmark deals so I'll shut my trap and give Sweeney a little of my blind trust for now

Gavrikov would basically be this eras Seidenberg addition
Big, stable 2nd pair guy that can skate and be a little physical. I like it for the cup run. Would be interesting to see if he’d be here long term though.

They did with Hall, then ultimately sighed him, but other first round picks given up have come with extensions in place. That’s been pretty standard for them lately.

The Hall deal was even better than you remember, it was a late 2nd and Bjork. But yes I agree- it seems like they’re usually willing to pay that 1st if they have the right to speak to their agent and work things out

I think if they make any moves that is the most likely. I know in some recent playoffs others teams checked the hell out of our defense and ultimaltely injured our defensemen including the finals against the Blues a few years ago including last year too.

Who would he knock out of the top 6?

Who would he knock out of the top 6? Probably Forbort I’d honestly roll 7 D, 11 F in the playoffs though. Tampa has done it and it’s worked well for them. Gives you insurance in case you lose a defenseman to injury under the intense playoff forechecking (like we’ve seen happen to Hampus, Carlo, Grz). Don’t have to play down a man on the backend. Plus I think Forbort provides more as a PK/shutdown guy than our 12th forward in the lineup would 7D allows you to shelter Grz and Forbort from certain situations too.

One of the motivations to get a bigger LHD is the fear of Grz getting worn down in the playoffs.
I'd consider moving Cliffy (pending UFA) and playing Forbort on the right side. Grz can stay on top pair for est of season but can move him down in playoffs if needed.
You could also just keep Clifton for depth and match up as needed (clearing Smith for the room needed against the cap).

The longer this takes the less likely it happens

I think it's happening. Just a question of how much to dump a contract.

Still want him to get stronger and to work on the 2-way game

Not a big fan of this. Seems like a lot to give up for a guy who doesn't move the needle that much.
If we are going to do it, and especially if we're thinking extension, then move Gryz as your cap dump move. You're making the move because you obviously don't trust him with a lot of PT in the postseason and he's too expensive for a third pairing D on a team with cap issues.
You might actually get a piece back for him as well.
