So if the Sox want Reynolds then Bello is likely the guy the Pirates want to head a trade package

Astros are already the villains maybe they just lean in. Astros have already made this play once before Yeah, the Osuna thing didn't have the "gray area" of this one where people might think it was part of BDSM. It also didn't result in awful pictures surfacing which only amplified the issue. If you'll notice, Osuna is still out of the league too. I'm sure someone will take Bauer but it hopefully won't be the Sox and hopefully won't be in a big market. Aside from all of this Bauer also seems to be just a generally unlikable dude that I really hope never wears a Boston uniform. But if you can absorb him for a year and get someone that can make a real difference then do it. Don't do it because you want to help a buddy skirt the repeater tax. My fear is Friedman is calling Bloom and offering him Bauer and Bloom takes him with half retained and some AAAA player that can make the 26 man roster and be yet another marginal guy. The call should start with Dustin May or Diego Cartaya.

So if the Sox want Reynolds then Bello is likely the guy the Pirates want to head a trade package I'm sure Bello will be the ask. The Red Sox shouldn't give up Bello for Reynolds, who put up 2.9 FG and B-Ref WAR last year. It's not like we've had a lot of success developing SP. We may finally have one and should hold onto him.

Exactly, and the thing about pitchers is you need more than one. Bello looks like he can be a guy, great....but it ain't like we have a ton of Bellos right now and can afford to trade one away. Hard pass for me.

That Conforto deal beat projections by a lot
edit: Damn, he got an opt out after one. This is lowkey one of the worst contracts of the offseason. Giants fans furious about this move too.

Taylor Rogers to Giants, 3 yrs. 33 million Holy Moly. Didn't think Rodgers was getting that. I'll take the Chris Martin deal over that.

Yeah, I wanted Conforto, but we missed a bullet on this one. Shocked he was able to command such a deal while missing the entirety of last season.

Bello should be held onto at all costs unless we’re receiving at least #3 SP who still has some team control left, i.e. literally no one who’s available on the trade market.

It also includes Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the deal as well apparently.

Varsho is a good player but I think the Jays will come to regret this trade. Moreno is a really good young hitting catcher. I cam see him as a future all star. Kirk can hit, but probably would be better off as the DH. Really good move by AZ who is building up their young core.

I agree, that's why I keep refreshing MLBTR. I'd likely take Moreno over Varsho straight up in a vacuum.

Varsho is a young stud who is cost controlled for a few years and under control till 2027 He has speed power and is an elite defender

I think Moreno is slightly overrated/too highly ranked for a small sample size of good hitting in the upper minors, but he was a top 10 prospect and has a ton of value regardless of what I think.
Varsho is a very good player, but to this point is an average hitter and plus defender. Great to have, but not someone I’d give up Moreno for.
Perfect move for Arizona though. Fills an area of need, with Carroll and Thomas still on board in the OF long term (and McCarthy, but I expect him to flame out).
Blue Jays might lose out on a star catcher, but between Kirk and Jansen they probably have that covered already. So it still makes sense there too. I like their roster more than New York’s personally, but they’ve found ways to come up short the last couple of years. Now’s the time to go get a ring before some of their young guys get paid, with Chapman on a walk year, and Springer not getting any younger.

Good trade for the Red Sox, IMO. Varsho is good but not really a player I'd want to bet on. .298 xwOBA last year and I'm pretty sure the defensive metrics aren't going to give him +16 runs in 900 innings next year. Also just generally good when the Blue Jays/Yankees trade future value for current value in a year where they're already way ahead of us anyway.
I guess this takes the remaining Arizona OFs off the trading block.

They had three catchers, so it shows us which prospect they like better. I don’t think Varsho has to hit much for that team anyway. He’s really there for his up the middle defense.

Varsho is 25. Hardly abandoning the future. And he was 4+ WAR last year. I am not sure I see how the *Sox* come out ahead. That seems to be taking a keep-your-powder-dry policy to a rather extreme end.

I just think of "WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN" with a trade of Jarren Duran, when he was still on Top 100 lists 🤷🏾♂️
