If we take on the entire Bauer contract (just to release him) I wonder what kind of prospect we can get back?

The deal went down. Good move by Dombrowski. He gave up nothing of consequence for a good reliever to stack their pen with.

I don't know nearly enough about the Phillies' roster to judge this one way or the other, but given Dombroski''s history of disinterest when it comes to managing the margins of a roster, I'd worry about giving up a couple of potentially useful depth/bench pieces for a one-inning relief pitcher.

It's kind of a move the Sox should make at the moment. The Sox have a lot of depth on their 40 man roster. That wasn't a huge pricetag for a lefty reliever who can hit triple digits with the fastball.

I think the Phillies package was a little better than that, Maton and Vierling each at least have MLB success. I would’ve been okay if the Red Sox made that deal but not felt great about it. Edit: Soto is not as good as I thought he was after checking the numbers, so yeah pass.

The Red Sox have no use for a mediocre major league reliever right now. They're already trying to dump one that they have no space for.

Looking closer at Soto, he's probably got good stuff, but his walking too many guys is Diekman-like and would be annoying. Personally I'd rather see the Sox sign either Chafin or Will Smith as a late inning lefty. I'm not a huge fan of Moore either because of his walks as well. Dombrowski, though, didn't give up anything of consequence. I'd disagree that any of those guys he have up had any real major league success. Maton's minor league record doesn't impress. He's probably a utility man. Certainly not good enough to dislodge Stott, let alone Trea Turner. Vierling was so successful, the Phillies went out and got Marsh to play CF. And the other guy isnt much if anything else either. The Phillies were probably clearing their log jam. Soto has his warts but in middle or late inning relief he could still help them. I'd still like Chafin or Smith for the Sox but I doubt they get either which is too bad. If Taylor isnt back to 2019 or 2021 form, they will definitely need another lefty for the pen. I'm not big on Rodriguez. He doesn't throw strikes consistently either and Showalter wasn't using him in high leverage, so I think he's just a lefty in the middle innings.

Where does Belt even play on that roster? Seems like a huge overpay for a bench guy

Lefty so he can give days off to Vladdy or Kirk/Jansen. If he hits like he did in 2020-2021 they'll find him the at bats. Interesting spot for Belt though, would have thought he'd want to go somewhere he'd play every day to hopefully get a bigger contract next year with a rebound.

Cueto signing definitely makes me think the Marlins are moving one of their pitchers, they have so much depth there. And it totally makes sense for them to swap one of those guys out for a more veteran leader while adding some value in the process. Not to say it'll definitely be to the Red Sox though.

Rojas to the Dodgers for Jacob Amaya
Seems like hes about equivalent value to Enmanuel Valdez, altho Amaya is a better fielder with less power.
