Drew should have been out at the plate, but that was a hell of a slide + an awful job blocking the plate by Arencibia. Throw was right on the money, but Arencibia fielded it behind the plate and had to reach back toward the field of play, allowing Drew plenty of time

Needed to get more runs out of that. Morrow has been flashing good stuff so far.

Can someone give me a rational reason for pessimism? This guy can: The only thing that's really outlandishly good so far is the starting pitching. Nah, that's not pessimism, that's just a reason why they won't win 116 games; their starting pitching can't keep up this pace. But it's looking like it'll be good. My overall worry for this team was the pitching; it looked thin and potentially weak at the top if Lester didn't improve. But Lester's better (altho he doesn't look great to me, just better), and 4-7 starters actually look ok to me, assuming Morales ever makes it back. A lot had to go right for their pitching, but it seems to be turning out that way ... I hate guys getting picked off.

And just like that, this game is over.
Lester looks like he's about to go into one of his annual stretches of sucking.

Lester's command is improved, but he still really struggles at getting the outside corner against righties with his four-seamer and two-seamer. When he can't can't get that outside corner, he has to come inside, where he's much more vulnerable.

Well, this is not Lester's night.

Well, that was a freebie.
This is going to be their best opportunity to get runs across. Lets see what happens.

Why is a right hander facing David Ortiz? LOL, thanks Gibbons.

Why don't I love Lester. Is there a more frustrating Boston athlete? A guy everyone wants to love, but I can't.

I think people just need to accept the fact that Lester is a #2, not an ace. Which, by the way, is still a really good pitcher.

Well, they don't really deserve to win this game anyway.

Salty's pitch calling in the AB against Bautista was as bad as it gets. That set everything up.
And Encarnarcion needs to be put on his ass the next time up.

They somehow pull this one out of the fire then the sports writers will begin "magical season" narrative.

Well that's a shame. Hopefully that can get one back against Oliver, though I am not super confident in this part of the order.

Willl Middlebrooks - Say big fella, those pitches outside the strike zone are, uh, outside the strike zone, and while you may hit some of them a long way when you're going good, you're not going good at this particular moment of your very brief MLB career. So lay off those, ok big guy? Great. Good talk.
(aside to everyone else: Anyone know when Almazar will be ready?)

Maybe we can trade Hanrahan and a couple prospects for Carlos Marmol after the season is over.

Pitiful loss against a horrid baseball team.
I've about had it with Saltalamacchia.

Surely you have some family members you could love instead. Maybe just judge Lester as a pitcher. Everything that's wrong with an emotionless new aged stat head who needs everything to be black or white as told by a mathematical formula in 3 sentences. Surely you're not that jaded to think a fans love of an athlete is the same as that of a family member or other " loved one". Don't be a jackass just to be a jackass. First and foremost, I have no problems with Lester's off the field persona, not that I know him in the least. I also don't give two shits what anyone who help my favorite teams win does off the field so I'm about as unmoved by that stuff as they come. However, if you don't get caught up in wanting to root for certain people in sports for whatever reason then I'm not sure what's wrong with you. Following sports is great for many reasons. The games are fun but so are the personalities that go along with it. My frustrations with Lester are 100% performances based. Does what he overcame to get here want me want to root or him harder then others?, possibly, but that's not what's wrong with sports fans. That's a great part of following sports. For those of us who aren't soulless anyways.

Is he good enough to be considered a 2? He's the Sox 2, but I don't know, we'll see. Just throw strikes for Christ sake.
