Carlos Ruiz has been a pretty good defensive catcher. Top 5? Probably. I think he could be the target.

Buster Olney mentioned on WEEI that the Sox may be looking to upgrade over Salty behind the plate. I really hope they move him. Good guy but I can't stand watching him catch or bat. What clear upgrades might be available via trade? Carlos Ruiz? Brian McCann? I'd love to get Ruiz. He hits well. Walks better than a league average player. He only strikes out about 12% of the time. He fields fantastically. I think him and Ross would make a great combo.

Saltalamacchia currently has a 101 OPS+. By definition, he's a league average hitter. He's 24th in BA, 17th in OBP, and 13th in SLG among catchers. Are those all-star numbers? Certainly not. Are they great? No. I'd say he's about average at the plate, and probably there to a smidge below defensively.
Is that a position you might want to upgrade? Sure, but there are very few teams that will have a better catcher who are also willing to move him, and it ain't going to be cheap. Are you willing to trade the likes of a Barnes or Webster for McCann, who may be a half-year rental?

The sox can upgrade the catchers position just by using Ross more. They said at the start of the year he would play more than an average backup , but I don't see it. Glad to see him in there tonight. Every time Salty throws the ball I cringe.

Is it just me or does Buehrle look like he kinda doesn't give a crap?

Daniel Nava, now of the .243 ISO through 93 PAs. He's obviously not going to stay on this 30 HR pace, but even something in the 15-20 HR range with a good number of doubles makes him a starting-caliber left fielder when combined with his plus plate discipline and improved defense.

Nava just looks like a better hitter now. More extension on his swings. More pop. Even from the right side.

I wonder how many HR the Sox would have if they had Toronto as their home field. This place is a band box. Every HR is well over the fence.

Doubt he was happy with the trade after he signed with Miami. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. He fell victim to one of the classic blunders. Never get involved in a land war in Asia, never go against a sicilian with death on the line, and never sign with the Marlins without getting a no-trade clause (ie, never sign with the Marlins).

Third-decker from Napoli. He has a long swing but when he connects, he gets his money's worth.

I think Loria's Sicilian. He also appears to be immune to inocane powder. so this fits.

This being the first time I've ever seen Alex Wilson's face outside of his profile picture, I was wondering why Andy Dwyer was pitching for the Sox.

Toronto has looked absolutely terrible in the first two games of the season. Sox looked bad yesterday, but they've been on fire for a month. Toronto has been miserable for a month

I think they should have pulled/pr for Ortiz when he was standing on 2b and they had 4-0 lead. ' Nothing good can come from this' I thought and Ortiz didn't score on a long single. Later he's out of the game? Hope nothing's wrong he's so hot.
Clay looked fantastic. Had Bautista SO on a perfect bender and didn't get it, came right back and K'd him on next pitch. Dominant.

It's early, small sample size, he has a bad hip. All that aside, the Red Sox might want to lock Napoli up for two more years around the All Star break. They may have to outbid someone this offseason if he stays around .270, 30 hr, and slugs north of .525.

If he has that type of season they'll give him the qualifying offer and it will probably shut down his market. Even if he has a year like he did in 2011 they can probably play it year to year moving forward.

Besides the obvious climate differences, I wonder what tax consequences resulted from this trade...
