How the Red Sox respond tonight will tell us a lot about this team.

Casas staying in Worcester this long while the major league team collapses looks an awful lot like story last year. No urgency and by the time he comes back the team may be out of it. Lol. “No urgency”. It's like the guys who watch the Olympics and say "I could do that."

Does anyone else feel if Jansen had not been sent out for the 9th inning Tuesday night -- after the Sox had pushed the margin out to five runs in the bottom of the 8th -- to get the last three outs and thus collect his save, he might have been available to close last night's game?
I'd hate to think we put stat collection ahead of win collection.
Btw, he had pitched 1 inning Monday (14 pitches) and his prior usage was 6 days earlier. The one out in the 8th inning on Tuesday was maybe 3 or 4 pitches (I don't recall exactly).

To be nice as possible, when Story came back last year he wasn't playing well and it could be argued he didn't spend long enough rehabbing. Especially with a young player who has had some injury concerns I'd rather him take his time.

Im confused. Can Casas pitch now? Our bullpen is dead last since the all star break. Being below the White Sox in anything is disturbing.

The Sox didn’t rebuild. They tried to compete as Bloom and ownership said many times. They picked in the top 10 once, during a 60 game season where they would have picked much worse than 4th in a 162 game season. The biggest name they traded was… Christian Vazquez? Workman? Held on to Bogaerts, Eovaldi, Devers, JDM, Erod. You can definitely argue they should have rebuilt, but they got an ALCS appearance and have been competitive for 4.5 months the last few years and are going to be in their window sooner than they otherwise would’ve been

This team can not take any win for granted and make in game decisions to win the next game. For example, Martin not sent out for the 9th last night after his 1/3, 4 pitch, 8th. I do not understand why Cora did not manage last night like he did Tuesday.

I can accept that answer -- protecting this day's win (though I disagree with it -- you've got to use those other guys some time & 5-run lead needing 3 outs seems as good as it's gonna get; versus only so many Kenley pitches). My concern is if it wasn't that answer & player/manager were persuaded by save opportunity & Kenley's career ranking, etc.

I don’t want to re-litigate the previous series in the current series thread, but 9-4 with 7,8,9 coming up for the 9th was a perfect time for Shughart to come in. Probably woulda saved Jansen to be used yesterday. Oh well, he should be available tonight for the O’s.

We can't be getting into the rhythm of using him for 2-inning stints, and I don't think it was necessary to bring him into a 6-4 game with one man on. Hindsight is 20/20, but had they not used him until the 9th, they wouldn't have brought him in all at on Tuesday, and he would have been ready for last night. We can't be managing the bullpen like its the playoffs when there's 6 weeks to go (plus the playoffs). That's way too long to have the pedal to the metal.

Yeah, Pivetta hit him - but holy cats did the bottom drop out of that thing!! Pivetta's pitches have much more life than before he took a break.
Kutter to the phantom DL next please.

It's like the guys who watch the Olympics and say "I could do that." I don't believe I said i could play 1st base. But he's playing every day down in Worcester. If he wasn't healed he wouldn't be playing. It isn't a healing issue. And his managers comments seem to indicate a similar frustration but okay 👍

Beautiful homer. Got down on tricky pitch. Abreu has wicked power.
