I won’t be too sad to never see Valdez again He has options next season still, but yeah, he's heading into Dalbec territory where if we need a 40-man spot he might get DFA'd Feels like Valdez is getting passed by just about every MI option either in or near the majors at this point. Story, Hamilton, grissom, Campbell, Mayer and Meidroth all would seem to be better options than Valdez at this point. Not that I want to necessarily rush Campbell, Mayer or meidroth but still makes it hard to see much daylight for Valdez to find any footing in Boston at this point.

Wong looks so bad behind the plate, I swear the best way to upgrade the pitching is upgrading the catcher Well we're out of the inning, but yeah, seconded. Not a great FA class for catchers, you could go d'Arnaud who has better stats than Jansen but defensively is somewhere in between Jansen and Wong. Hedges is available if you want to just say offense be damned, Stallings has the arm and blocking skills, though, he can't really frame. Carson Kelly might be my top get, pretty good defensively on all fronts. .680 OPS isn't amazing, but he's not Hedges level of offensive ineptitude, should be cheap. Two year deal for one of these guys to mentor Teel, and you transition Wong as a utility guy or trade him.

I wonder if 61 Rbi's for someone who hits over 30 HR's is a record, of some sorts. Can't imagine that has happened often.
I get he missed time and RBI's are fluky, but still......

Part of it is on other people as he had so many solo home runs, but yeah, you'd like to see him do more. It's pretty close to a record, StatMuse has it as the record for someone who's hit 31, for 30 HR its Cedric Mullins who hit 30 HR and 59 RBI in 2021.

Thanks fellas, for the research. After seeing stats for many decades, it just looks weird to see so many HR's with so few RBI's.

Royals won 3-0, :/
So, my understanding is that this means if we lose we're eliminated officially.

Painful game to watch - hard to find anything to say. Ugh.
Someone activated the .500 magnet again...it is pulling us back.

Why not just make it a timeshare or Wong the backup catcher if/as Teel shows he can handle it? Wong has a 144 wRC+ vs Lefties, still solid (98) vs Righties, but Teel will probably be better vs Righties especially with defense (the framing can't be any worse!) I'm sure they bring in a vet to ST but I'd rather it be a non-guaranteed type instead of some multiyear deal we feel obligated to uphold, Wong seems like he would be a great complement and a competent starter every day in case of injury or Teel struggling early.

Feels like the chances Teel breaks camp with the team are low. He's a C so he probably needs some extra seasoning at AAA. I'd bring in a stop gap strong defensive C to backup if not platoon with Wong. Carson Kelly would seem a fairly good option for what I'm describing.

Wong's defense is so flawed that he's proven he shouldn't be an everyday catcher. My assumption also is Teel isn't ready to start ST, so a catcher acquisition makes sense. As for what happens to Wong, if he's hitting I think he could be a Brock Holt type where he gets in the lineup for his bat and plays some different positions given that he has the athleticism for that. Once Teel is ready I think Wong moves off catcher once Teel is ready and is more a third catcher.

Welp, this team was a real tease this year. Hung in there for 159 games , but it has not felt like they were going get over the hump this month.
Sox will get there next year. Pretty sure they will !!

Sad official end of the Red Sox playoff contention in 2024 with Vaughn Grissom taking a called third strike.
